Secret Invasion Preview

Post by Diabolical »

EW.com (what?) has the first 8 pages (10-12 if you count the cover, intro page, and double pages) of Secret Invasion #1.
Pages 3 and 8 are the double pages. The scroll bar at the top is easy to miss.
And there is another possible Astonishing X-Men spoiler in there (see below if you want to know).

SPOILER
Agent Brand is in there. She did die in Astonishing X-Men #23 or 24, right?
END SPOILER

Weird. I think you're right - but that shit seeps out of my find FAST. I got the free preview comic, and I think it had a couple of pages of #1 intermingled in with art from some of the older comics the Skrulls appeared in, a couple of the same pages are the centerfolds in this week's regular comics as well. Lenil Yu's art is..... angular, or something.

Wow. How obvious is it that Mr. Fantastic and Henry Pym are skrulls?

I wonder whether or not they're going to recover ALL of the heroes that turn out to be Skrulls, or if some are going to remain missing or found to be dead? I'd wager it'd have to be the 2nd option, wouldn't it?

I wouldn't give a rat's ass if Hank Pym was dead.

Nobody stays dead. If anybody winds up "dead" I'm sure they'll turn up alive and well somewhere down road.

But Hank Pym totally deserves to be wormfood. Douche.

Steve Rogers was a Skrull.

What I think sucks is this "invasion" is supposed to only go back a few years (our time). Wouldn't it be totally fucking nuts if they went balls-out, and there were Skrull agents among us for decades?

Like maybe some long-running but minor character like Black Widow had been a Skrull for years?

My money's on Hawkeye. I understand he suddenly vanished and came back as Ronin, who is a ninja, despite Hawkeye never having had any ninja training, and ninjas not being referred to as Ronin, but someone thought the name was kewl and ninjas were kewl. I always thought he was a douche, but you don't make a douche cooler by dipping it in dog shit.

He just banged Maya (Echo) though, so odds are one of them is a Skrull.

I say have Wolvie be a Skrull - though he doesn't even really know he's a Skrull (like Deckard being a replicant). That would explain why his memories came back, if they wanted to get away from that move.

I was being totally serious. Hawkeye didn't have the training to vanish for a short time and come back a ninja. If it had been even a few years, I could maybe buy it.

Plus, we know that Elektra was a ninja. This means that the Skrulls would be familiar with ninjutsu. And, given that both Skrulls and true-ninjas* are masters of disguise, it fits.

*--I'm meaning "ninjas as they're supposed to be, not goofballs in black pajamas" as opposed to the tychonian sense of the word.

it's entirely possible... in fact, i thought he died and came back without any explanation what-so-ever.
as Ronin, who is a ninja, despite Hawkeye never having had any ninja training, and ninjas not being referred to as Ronin,
there was never any official "ronin is a ninja" storyline or anything. in fact, ronin was originally echo/maya lopez, the deaf woman who can mimic any movement she sees - meaning, after she fought daredevil, she WAS a ninja.

but clint came back, was offered the part of captain america by iron douche and turned it down. he then joined the new avengers using the identity that maya had created.
but someone thought the name was kewl and ninjas were kewl.
so obviously there's a lot more to it than that. you ninja snob.

You gotta admit, none of it "fits." Except the woman gaining Daredevil's abilities.

i dunno... the only thing i can think of is that iron man now knows clint is alive, so in order to conceal his identity (because they'd know he was working with the new avengers if he wore the hawkeye costume) they simply put him in the ronin guise. in fact, when it was still a mystery as to who it was in the costume, i'm pretty sure he brought up the very point that he's not "as good with" swords or something to that effect. i'll have to look back into my stack...
Except the woman gaining Daredevil's abilities.
that storyline was really freakin' cool. especially with david mack's art.

The idea of Echo herself is awesome, as is her name. For Bendis to throw her into the Avengers mix was really inspired. It's like he's been planning to take over the Marvel U for 10 years and it's all coming together, exactly as he has foreseen. This Skrull thing has real potential to rock ass.

I won't spoil anything until you guys read yours but I nearly peed myself with glee when that SkrullShip opened. And the thing with the [FAMOUS HEADQUARTERS BUILDING] and the ending page.

Fuck yeah!

I must concur. Jesus H. Fucking Christ, my "post-awesome-comic" pump is about as tingly now as it's been in my adult life. Really, really fucking good book - Even Lenil seemed to go easy on the thickness of his black lines - just for me of course.

How the FUCK is Reed Richards going to get untangled?
