Really.
I'm all for freedom of speech, but every single fucking site has comments, and it's all the morons commenting. I don't say that because of the political slant of any posters; it's the morons on both sides.
If there were actual intelligent discussion, as I assume was the intent, fine. But there can't be a discussion when, occasionally, you get one person throwing in a well-reasoned thought in a sea of stupid. Doesn't help that there appears to be a huge mass of morons who troll sites they perceive as having the opposite political leaning.
True, you can just not look at them, but sometimes you see them anyway, and it kills off your brain cells. They should at least be hidden by default; seeing a sea of stupid tends to discredit the news source.
I *REALLY* wish news sites got rid of commenting altogether

I've lost a few brain cells looking at comments on Yahoo news and the local newspaper website. There are some terrible discussions going on at amazon. Don't remember how I ended up reading it, but there was a flornbi infested discussion about the end of the world in 2012 and the Mayans.

a lot of the time, there is a feature that allows voting on the comments, and if enough people vote your comment down, it's hidden from view. in theory that sounds like it will help, but in practice, it's just there for morons of the opposing viewpoint to get your post hidden all-together.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

If you want to weep for the state of our country, read the comments on any article at Yahoo about foreigners, especially relating to Mexicans or Muslims. It's not even mistrust. There are comments about all Middle Easterners being slime and Mexicans being lazy, dirty, taking over the country, etc, and anyone who disagrees with these people should "get out." There are actually comments that don't get deleted that go on about how America should be all-white and that blacks are inferior.
Does Yahoo really not realize how bad the behavior they allow of their users makes them look?
