I've never read the original Lovecraft works that everybody always tries to use as some kind of shorthand for 'scary' but near as a can tell, 'Lovecraftian' means giant vagina with teeth, and uh, zombies, I think.

That's not scary. Quit putting giant squid vaginas into stories and thinking people are going to get goosebumps when they read/see it.

if people are using 'lovecraftian' as a stand-in for anything 'scary' they're doing it wrong. i would say 'hellboy' is definitely 'lovecraftian' but 'the walking dead' is not. it's all about unthinkable powerfully godlike creatures that are either completely indifferent or else actively hostile towards humankind, a deeper type of cosmic horror than just "monsters jumping out of the lake".

Lovecraft is too full of weird squid-headed vagina people speaking nonsense words to be scary. It's just stupid.

(Admittedly, I've never read any of the actual stuff by Lovecraft, which might change my mind. All the derivative shit doesn't make me want to read it too much, though.)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Micro-Series. I haven't gotten Vol 1, and Vol 2 should be shipping in a few weeks. (It's super-cheap to pre-order them, but I didn't realize Vol 1 was listed until after it was actually available, and just haven't gotten around to ordering it.)

It seems decompressed, but it's Kevin Eastman. Eastman + Turtles = I'm at least giving the first few volumes a serious look.

This is the first Wednesday in a decade where I shan't buy any Comics.

Because I don't have any money. :(

worst timing ever, as there are not one, but TWO atomic robo books coming out this week - "real science adventures" #3 and "the flying she-devils of the pacific" #1... :(

I've been selling plasma at a plasma clinic to fund my addiction. But last week, the jackass phlebotomist missed my vein with the needle and proceeded to jab around in my arm five or six times trying to find it. Subsequently, there's a gigantic bruise on my arm, and they 'defer' my donation until it goes away. So I'm out $60(at least) just because dumbass doesn't know how to do his job. :frus:
And so many of the books I get have only like 1, 2 or 3 copies on the shelf. I'm usually first guy in the store so I have dibs. But there's no way they'll be there at the end of the day, let alone next week. Like Scalped, Transformers, and the Atomic Robo books.

I called the guy, and he'll hold 'em til next week. Thanks though.
Luckily this was a small week. Only 8 books on my list. And next week is relatively small, also.
So here's what I didn't get this week.

Scalped
TF:MTMTE
Amazing Spidey
Cap/Iron Man
FF
WaX-Men
X-Men Legacy
and the Atomic Robos

He held Scalped, TF, and AR. The rest will most likely be there next week. And if not, I can hunt them down later. Which is part of the fun of collecting for me.

Last week:

Batman: The Dark Knight #10 - Someone is kidnapping kids and SCARING them so bad they are so deeply traumatized they refuse to speak...and Bats can't figure out who it is. Some detective he is.

Batman Incorporated #2 - A Talia Al Ghul tale about her relationship with her pops. Now I have to wait another month to find out if Damian is really dead [/sarcasm].

Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #1 - Still good. Another origin/backstory of how Dan discovered Hollis' identity and became Nite Owl II.

Fatale #6 - the second book in the series, which basically picks up right where the last one left off. I wish they'd get back to Criminal.

Hit Girl #1 - I must've forgotten to take Kick-Ass off my list, so this was pulled. Takes place between Kick-Ass 1 and 2 and contradicts Mindy's own story in the those books.

This week:

Avengers Vs X-Men #7 - The Pheonixed X-Men get scared shitless about Scarlet Witch, Black Panther bitchslaps Stark, and Namor goes on teh attack.

Batman: Detective Comics #10 - Bats fights the boring Mr. Toxic.

Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #1 - Another good one detailing Ozymanias' upbringing, which surprises me, since I never liked the character.

The Boys #68 - Another devastating issue as another character bites the dust. And the Female has what is probably her best moment in the entire series.

Daredevil #14 - Finally, since my LCS wasn't even aware it didn't come in until I told them a week or two ago.

Fury: My War Gone By #4 - Fury gets two things: laid and orders to take out Castro.

IZombie #27 - Gwen needs to decide the fate of everyoe in town in the penultimate issue.

The Punisher #13 - Castle and Cole-Alves go undercover (Frank's alias: Curtiss Jackson) to steal of of Doc Ock's Armatures.

Rocketeer Adventures 2 #4 - Last of the fun short story anthology, but a 4 part mini (Cargo of Doom) starts in August!

Curtiss Jackson is an actual character in the Marvel U. He's the guy responsible for giving USAgent, Battlestar, and other various super villains their super strength and whatnot. I think he first appeared in the first Thing ongoing when Grimm was a professional wrestler in the 80s.

Here's 16 books from the last two weeks dumped together.

Amazing Spidey 688 and 689. Morbius digs up Curt Conners dead son to do experiments on and turns the Lizard human again, only he's still Lizard on the inside and nobody knows so now he has access to Horizon Labs.

Atomic Robo: Flying SheDevils of the Pacific 1. The year: 1951. The place: The Pacific Ocean. The story: Awesome like always.

AR: Real Science Adventures 3. 4 more short stories in the AR-verse for only $2.75

AvX 7. This series is so disjointed being written by FIVE different guys, so much plot is falling by the wayside. I seriously feel like I missed an issue.

Captain America & Iron Man 633. Steve and Tony go undercover at an illegal super weapons expo in Madripoor. This is almost the exact same plot as Punisher 13.

FF 19. The Foundation kids are in Wakanda and stop some Evil tribe from teleporting the entire country's water supply away. Bentley kicks a guy in the nuts. That was pretty funny.

GIJoe ARAH 180. The Joes are trying to find a stolen MARS nuke prototype that's being sold at Comic-Con. It's a contrived reason to have Snake Eyes and the team wandering around SDCC.

Iron Man 520. Turns out Mandarin has had access to Stark's mind this whole time. And Tony threatens to sue the mysterious new Iron Man for IP infringement(for the benefit of perpetuating the ruse for the media I'm guessing).

Punisher 13. Castle and Cole infiltrate an illegal super weapons sale aboard a yacht. Castle calls Cole Alves, which I thought was pretty significant. I liked how lowkey they played it though.

Transformers MTMTE 6. Fort Max snaps and takes his therapist and Whirl hostage while dealing with his torture for three years on Garrus-9. Another intense, well written issue.

Transformers RID 7. The lines continue to blur between Autobots, Decepticons, and the NAILs as another Decepticon lands on Cybertron seeking asylum. A 'Con who has history with Metalhawk. I am perplexed and amazed that the Transformers books are now like the best written books by ANY publisher. When the hell did this happen? The dweeb who writes 'The Buy Pile' likened it to West Wing meets The Wire, but with giant robots. And he's right.

X-Factor 239. Theresa and Havok fight a Celtic demon witch summoned by a teenage girl accidentally.

WaX-Men 12. AvX tie in. Uhmm. The Avengers and the PheoniX-Men( I just coined this term, with the capital 'X' on the end of Pheonix being the X in X-Men. You saw it here first) are fighting. This takes place during/before/after some issue of AvX. I dunno.

Uncanny X-Men 15 559. AvX tie in. The Pheonix Five decide to go kick Mr. Sinister's ass in his underground cavern city. Which is of course what he wants.

X-Men Legacy 269. Avx tie in. Rogue and Ms. Marvel have a lot of bad history with each other. The fight each other this issue.

And Scalped 59. The penultimate issue. Didn't read it.
