Bo Burnham got his start on youtube when he was a teenager. Then he got a some Comedy Central gigs. I’ve never watched any of his early stuff.
The first time I saw his routine was when he had a couple comedy specials on Netflix. He was unusual. It took me a second viewing before I really appreciated his brand of comedy. He has a parody of country music called Panderin’ that’s brutally hilarious.
Then he kinda stopped performing because being onstage was stressing him out. He had decided to start touring again, but the pandemic hit, so instead he did a third Netflix special where he just camped out in his studio for a full year. He wrote, directed, edited, and composed everything by himself.
It won him some Emmys.
I’m posting this one because his next job is literally writing the music for the new Sesame Street feature film.
And there’s plenty of other examples, but I think this one is fantastic. He took the stupidest, most basic joke of all time and made it…emotional?

"No Tom Foolery today, Ron. I'm tired of looking at your dreadful, speckled mug."
"Why do you hurt me in this way, Harry?"
”It’s a grid system motherfucker. Eleven up and one over, you simple bitch.”
