Wow, that is true hack writing. I struggled to read the excerpt. There's no way I could read a whole book of that shite. Hard to believe Chuck was paid real money to write that.
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

Okay, here's my seemingly batshit 180°.
I have to watch Episode VII: We're Really Not the Prequels, Honest, Just Look at Old Fart Han Solo. Even if they intentionally make a movie that makes Manos: The Hands of Fate look like Citizen Kane, and then make a point to tell everyone it's shit.
Why?
Not only is Rian Johnson writing VIII and IX, and directing VIII, but the motherfucking Collector has been reportedly cast in at least VIII.
I have to have some idea of what's going on. Disney has conned me into seeing Abrams' apparent blowjob to the fanboys.

Just let yourself be swamped by the oncoming tsunami of clips and promos. Toys and product. by the time the movie hits you'll know all you need to and can save yourself a few bucks. By September the entire plot will have leaked and by November the entire movie will be a torrent file. Images for episode VIII will have leaked and as you wrap up in your BB-8 slankie in the cold of new year you can read the latest plot report for episode IX and rest easy in the knowledge that your entire childhood has been shat on from a great height.

That has to be the most honest title ever. I even read that when he came out at Comic Con and said something about the movies not taking on much from the prequels the crowd erupted in applause (or some shit like that) and it just reeked of a circlejerk thing for him and the crowd to do. I seriously think that people try VERY hard to not like the prequels just so they can bash on them.anarky wrote:

Kinda like the way some people are trying VERY hard to not like the sequels just so they can bash on them before they even see them.Slicker wrote: I seriously think that people try VERY hard to not like the prequels just so they can bash on them.

We can't even please ourselves, how the fuck is JJ Abrams supposed to? I'm honestly at the point where I don't even care if they're shitty, Disney will win because they'll get 500 million billion dollars out of the whole thing, regardless of whether it's 2 hrs of Jar Jar fighting jumping Yoda or something actually worth watching. It's impossible to get all revved up again for another (endless, this time - and that's a factor isn't it?) slew of Star Wars movies. It was exhausting last time and I was a younger man.

I don't understand why people get so worked up protecting these movies like they're the pinnacle of art itself. No matter how much glitter and rhinestones you slap on a turd, it's still a turd.

Re: How I realized I was over Star Wars completely
Eh, the originals are classics. The prequels aren't bad, but they're not great films by any stretch. The sequels, well, I'd like to anticipate E7 the way everyone else does, but Abrams has done absolutely nothing that impressed me, Kaddan hasn't done anything worth a shit in decades, and every single bit of marketing is less a sense of wonder over something new than "hey, look, remember how much you loved this before the prequels?" Maybe that won't be the case, maybe Abrams will make his first movie I actually give a shit about, and maybe Kasdan still has the ESB touch. But I don't want that TPM level of anticipation; nothing can live up to that.

Re: How I realized I was over Star Wars completely
I was three years old when I saw Star Wars.
I was 25 when TPM came out. And we hadn't had new SW since I was nine, so the anticipation was outrageous.
I'll be a month shy of 42 when TFA hits. My excitement hasn't waned. But it has been tempered by age. I have no doubt I will find something to like about the new movie. And probably find something to bitch about as well. We can never recapture that sense of newness of experiencing Star Wars for the first time. But it's stupid to hate on something you haven't even seen yet.
If nothing else, you've got two hours of eye candy Daisy Ridley to look at. Yum.

I really do want them to be decent and I may even go to the midnight showing (only because I'm going to try and go with Adam and the kids) but from what I've read and saw and what will probably be I just can't get excited. Plus the merchandising was always a big part of the prequels and it seems that they aren't doing a very good job of that either.

Re: How I realized I was over Star Wars completely
I really did try to like the prequels. I saw each of them in the theater and bought the dvds. The only one I can sit through is TPM. The other two make me cringe and have trouble enjoying them.
Between the two clips of Episode VII they have shown, I feel my inner fanboy kicking in and buying into the hype. We'll probably see it opening weekend.

It came out today that Michael Jackson wanted to play Jar Jar Binks.
