How I realized I was over Star Wars completely

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

I also missed the Fox Fanfare, it felt like the movie started without me and jumped straight to the Crawl.

I've been listening to some of the tracks on YouTube. They're good, but nothing pops out like the Imperial March or Duel of the Fates as a signature theme for the movie.

The recycled music that I found most noticeable was the Order 66 bit. Without spoiling anything I'm thinking you can recall when they borrowed from that - would have really benefited from something different.

I've noticed a lot of fans complaining about the score. I loved it personally, but I think it boils down to whether you like the other SW scores because they're SW, or like them because you like film scores and they're very strong ones. One of my friends nailed it down pretty well: TFA is scored more like an Indiana Jones film than a Star Wars.

This is the first time I didn't buy the soundtrack ahead of time and listen to it repeatedly in advance of the film. (I guess you couldn't buy it ahead of time this time? But as I was in self imposed isolation, I wouldn't have got it regardless)
But as I've said before, the music is one of the few things I enjoy about the saga regardless of the quality of the films.

Isn't it ironic that the most highly acclaimed of the Seven Star Wars films is the one with the lowest Box Office.

Yes. I would say it's like rain on your wedding day, or a free ride when you've already paid. Maybe even some good advice that you just didn't take. Who would've thought? It figures.

The love for ESB didn't really kick in until folks felt the resolution from watching ROJ. That's a true masterpiece - one you don't even realize is one for 3 fucking years.

I finally found an article on Yahoo where the comments section didn't turn into a battle between Democrats and Republicans or Christians vs. Atheists.

What's odd is I'm pretty sure he saw it at the premiere and said he liked it.

He's got a case of "That's-not-what-I-would've-done"-itis. Which is fine. I'll be happy to hear all about HIS idea for episodes 7-9 after all the hooplah from this trilogy has dies down and all the nerds can quibble about what might've been. But seeing as how this movie is making ALL the money he can't really say it was the wrong decision to go the nostalgia route.
And he's the single biggest owner of Disney stock right now, so he's still getting paid thanks to JJAbrams vision.

So how about the working theory that Rey is actually Han & Leia's second kid, not Luke's? I kinda like it - if they found out she was coming around the time he went offside, they would have kept her secret then hidden her someplace safe....

No sir, I don't like it.

If she's not Luke's kid, there needs to be one hell of a great explaination.
I can't see Han either not recognizing his daughter or pretending not to. The "I've never met you, but let's hug" between Leia and Rey is a bit weird though.

I thought the hug between Leia and Rey would've been SOOOO much more powerful if it had been Leia and Chewie. And Leia not having Botox interfering with her making sad face would've helped immensely as well.

I don't know if I buy the Rey is Luke's daughter 100% only because I feel like they want to throw a "I'm your father" size twist at the audience in Episode 8. Telegraphing her as Luke's kid just has a red herring taste to it right now.
If Luke says "I'm your father" to her in 8, the audience is just gonna go "Well, DUUHHH." And it will be anticlimactic. But if he's like "uhmm...your Vader's illegitimate daughter. I'm your older brother!" or something equally insipid, no one would see that coming.
I can see the filmmakers trying to chase that twist too hard at the expense of the overall story.

Unless she is Luke's daughter, but everyone (including Luke) assumed she was long dead.
Maybe another Jedi stashed her away and wiped her mind when the shit hit the fan with the Ren, and that Jedi was killed before he/she/they could tell anyone where Rey was.

Not being Luke's kid is like putting together a puzzle that is clearly a field a tulips, but when you finally put that last piece in it suddenly becomes a picture of a velociraptor.

Who will die in 8? General Leia Organa. Or Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

And what will the Title be? Going by the cyclical nature of the naming conventions, First Order will probably be part of the title. And some synonym of Strikes or Attacks.
