I just took that political science class and the VP's responsibilities never came up. Doesn't the VP just sit in Congress and wait for the Prez to croak? The only time the VP makes the news is when they spell potato wrong or shoot someone in the face.

Governors who are supposed to work with the feds should know. Unless, of course, they're busy firing their ex brother-in-laws and trying to cover up their support for the Bridge to Nowhere.

The single most important job is the tiebreaker in the Senate. Thus making you pretty fucking powerful even if no one pays attention.

In any case, if you publicly say you don't know who you're voting for, then say you have no idea what a VP does, it's probably bad karma to actually accept the job only three weeks later.

Funny how it's okay since her daughter is "doing the right thing." I love hypocrites. If it was anyone other than the daughter of the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, that girl would be an untouchable outcast.

It is sorta funny to watch obviously intelligent Republicans (especially those passed over for the position, like Pawlenty) spit out the same talking points they got in the e-mail Friday morning to try to defend her, and sound not nearly so intelligent as everyone knows they are, because the whole situation is a bit ridiculous.

So far, she's got no experience, she has a daughter who she obviously never told about condoms, she fired a Public Safety Commissioner for personal reasons, she majorly flip-flopped on the "Bridge to Nowhere" when it became national news.... That's just in slightly less than four days. What the hell will people find when they actually start digging?

This shit keeps getting better and better. Or scarier and scarier. Now the FBI admits they never vetted her. I'm not sure that's a requirement, but it would've brought up all this baggage earlier. The guy she replaced the Public Safety Commissioner with? A high school buddy.

She wasn't a Republican until 1996. She was a member of the Alaskan Independent Party, which is a pretty loony third party, the majority of the members of which support Alaska seceding from the US and becoming its own nation. She even attended their conventions. She apparently switched parties because it was politically expedient.

The father of her grandkid-to-be is apparently a guy named Levi. That's all they'll say, other than he will be marrying the girl. (Talk about your shotgun weddings. I'm sure he just wanted some wet pinkness.) Which obviously means that some reporter, regardless of what either candidate has said, will find this guy with an uncommon name in the city of ~5,000, or will find he doesn't exist. Either way should be interesting.

I still think the picture of her firing an M-16 isn't exactly going to appeal to the hearts and minds of women.

In any case, I'm not sure when the last time was that I was looking forward to an episode of The Daily Show as much as I am right now. Jon Stewart is going to love this woman so much he's going to leave his wife for her. (I'm speaking metaphorically, of course.)

Honest-to-God, I've been hearing that McCain wanted Lieberman but was told he'd lose the support of the GOP, and picked this woman last minute. I'm almost wondering if either he hopes she'll have to drop out after the nomination and he can somehow replace her on the ticket with Lieberman (I'm not even sure that's possible), or if he's senile and his advisors told him to avoid this woman like the plague.

I could care less if her daughter is pregnant, and I think it should be a non-issue for the Dems. but I think it should be noted if Sarah Palin was the Democratic Veep nominee, the Republicans would be organizing buses all over the country for the "High Morality" lynching. Hypocrites.

That's the only reason it bugs me. I don't care if her daughter fucks horses for crack money; but the hypocrisy is the issue. Unwed teenaged mothers are practically lepers unless they're the daughter of the Republican VP candidate. Then they're heroes.

Oh, and watch footage of Palin's appearances with her family from the weekend (before the story broke). The baby and blanket look to be positioned to hide her belly. My guess is they were going to stop the entire family from appearing within a week, keep them totally out of the limelight, and were planning to say the day after election day, "Oh, and, by the way, the new VP's daughter is due in a month." They knew it would be an issue with the ultraconservative base, and, despite what the die-hards at the convention and on TV say, I'm not sure it isn't.

I thought Leiberman was a Democrat?

I've gotta say, the Republicans are handling Palin's unwed knocked up teenage daughter pretty well, because we all know Republicans absolutely LOVE unwed knocked up teenagers.

Lieberman was a Democrat. Now he's an independent (after another Democrat beat him in the Senate primary in his state a couple of years back, and he ran as an independent). He's socially liberal and fiscally conservative--not so conservative as to accurately be called a Libertarian, though. He and McCain, to both their credit, have a history of working together. Unfortunately, McCain is listening to Rove, who focuses entirely on the base of the party while alienating almost everyone who's not a Republican, so Lieberman was shot down by all of his consultants.

Now McCain has his cock so far down Lieberman's throat, poor Joe is talking like a damn fool.

He apparently, according to all advance information, refused to attack Obama or any Democrats. But he did. I have a feeling he is never getting a BJ from Monica Lewinsky again.
