We got a postcard from DirecTV this weekend that said they are giving us free year of Showtime for our loyalty. So, last night, I watched Clerks II (well, missed the begining). The donkey scene was hilarious.

It looks like Showtime is playing Casino Royale this week. I haven't seen it yet so I'm going to try to catch it.

finally saw wall-e. cute flick. very well done, especially with the pantomime, seeing as how most of the movie is without actual dialogue. my only major gripe is that the titular character looks too strikingly similar to johnny 5 of 'short circuit' fame. however, this being a better movie, i can see past it.

I PLAY CARDS WITH JOHNNY FIVE EVERY OTHER THURSDAY. HIM, EV-9D9, SONNY FROM I,ROBOT, AND SOMETIMES TOM AND CROW GET TOGETHER. BUT JOHNNY REALLY GETS PISSED WHEN PEOPLE SAY WALL-E AND HIM LOOK ALIKE. HE DOESN'T SEE IT. IT'S LIKE IF SOMEBODY COMPARED YOUR WIFE TO RENEE ZELLWEGER.

Last night on TCM I saw a 1925 version of Wizard of Oz, and it was a weird-ass silent slapstick comedy. There was a black character Snowball played by an actor named G. Howe Black (not his real name, obviously) who could have been Sambo's twin brother. The first fucking scene of him was him sitting in a watermelon patch eating watermelon, and it didn't get much better from there.

I've heard there were other versions of the Wizard of Oz, but the only one I've seen was a cartoon series from the 60s or 70s. I was a wee lad when I saw them, so there is a good chance they might have been a Canadian cartoon.

Edit: It was called The Tales of the Wizard of Oz. I think CBC used to show it early in the morning on weekends. I vaguely remember the theme song, so I'll have to try to find it on youtube tonight.

Showtime has been playing Casino Royale for 9 months it seems. It is the worst of the four main movies packages.

I don't recall what the name of that show was but it was on up here as recently as 10-12 years ago in the EXTREME early morning (like 4:30-5 am)

All's I remember is that it didn't have any sort of backgrounds and it was very psychedelic, lots of strange sound effects and weird things happening :mabs:

In the past couple of weeks, I watched:

"Role Models" - Rollo, man, you exaggerated this one. It was funny, but it wasn't as funny as "Pineapple Express" or "Zack and Miri".

"Quantum of Solace" - Screw the mixed reviews, I thought this one was pretty good.

"Semi-Pro" - Between this and "Step Brothers", I think Will Ferrell should stick to making R rated movies.

Finished rewatching Step Brothers a few minutes ago.
Damn funny stuff.

But yet again, another Unrated DVD that I didn't notice much (if anything) different.

That saves me time. I was thinking about watching the Unrated version just to see if it was better than the R-rated version. Then again, it is worth rewatching just for the lines "You're a big fat curly haired fuck!" and "I've traveled five hundred miles to deliver my seed!"

I got access to an Academy Award screener of Slumdog Millionaire last night. I had heard of it, but had absolutely no idea what it was about and NO desire to find out. I'm glad I watched it because this is looking to be THE Oscar Winner this year. It was directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine) and is about a young Indian (not Native American) who is on India's version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". Since he is an impoverished youth from the slums, when he starts getting every question correct, they assume he's cheating, but as it turns out...well I think you should check it out. I know my description makes it sound like a snooze fest, but it's an absolutely marvelous movie.

I also saw Frost/Nixon (or part of it anyway) which was an interesting film, but nowhere near as good as Slumdog. I didn't think it was as compelling as the trailer made it out to be.

The Unrated version is 8 minutes longer according to the box, but it seems like it was like Superbad's unrated version with bits here and there.

I've heard nothing but great things and have been curious to see it. Glad to hear it isn't all hype.
