I watched E.T. the other day and it was the first time I had seen the "new" version of it and it fucking blows. The CG E.T. looks like pure carp. Why would they mess with it like that? I really wish I could buy the original version of it on DVD.

It wasn't the best movie of the year, but I liked District 9 quite a bit. As I explained elsewhere, my only complaint was the switches from a faux-documentary to a documentary-style movie.

I thought you could. Mine has both the 82 and 02 versions.
Unless that was one of those "limited time" things.

Hmmm...I'll have to check on Amazon again and see. I'll gladly get another copy if I can get the original instead of that new carp.

I thought E.T. sucked the first time I saw it at a drive in theater in 1982. Thanks to my high school's lack of budget for the foreign language department, I've seen it in Spanish more times than I've seen it in English.

Elf went to see dipshit 9 (she's called it all sorts of cursewords) with all our buddies last night- I stayed home and according to her it was a wise decision
She walked out halfway through and went to the bar next door to have a beer (oddly enough they took a bunch of beers with them so there was beer on hand, no reason to leave just for that- Elf actually walked out with one and tried to toss it in the garbage and missed, smashing it in front of the main entrance- she took a pic of that which I have attached) She drank her pint then returned to the theatre to hate the closing bit of the film. Apparently by the end of it she was yelling "what the fuck do you mean?!?!?!" at the screen
Only thing she got out of it was that maybe people shouldn't eat animals I think, but the pic is her review

These are the kind of things that happen when you miss half the movie.
I for one, really liked the movie, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece as some people seem to think it is.

Got back to my hotel room after a 13 hour day and flipped through the channels on the shitty local cable. Attack of the Clones was about half way over on Spike. Watched it for maybe 15-20 minutes while I changed clothes and checked email because there wasn't much else on. It still sucks. Every line uttered by Anakin made me cringe.

According to other sources maybe dipshit 9 wasn't QUITE as bad as Elf made it sound

Just finished T2 for the first time in ages.
The age of John Conner always bugged me.
Terminator was released/set in 1985 and T2 was released in 1991 (which would make him 6), but according to wiki, T2 takes place in 1995 (not sure they ever even say that in the movie), making John 10. Edward Furlong was about 14 when the film was released, which is too old to pass for 10.
I know it's just one of the many plotholes in the Terminator franchise, but has the age thing ever been explained anywhere?

No. But, since it's the absolute end of the Terminator saga as far as I'm concerned, I can overlook it.
Sorry, no T3, Rise of the Machines, comic books, or Sarah Connor Chronicles in my book. If you like 'em, fine. T2 had a perfect ending, and there's no reason to piss on it by beating a dead horse.

over the last 2 nights we watched "The Protector" and "Tail Sting"
Protector is a kind of silly movie but Tony Jaa fucking messes people up SO bad that it's fun to watch- the last 30 minutes or so of the film is like the last level of a video game - heck the whole film is like a video game, but the succession of "boss fights" near the end was totally over-the-top awesome, highly recommended for anyone who likes somewhat mindless yet mindblowing martial arts films that aren't "dark" in any way- it was easily better than all of the best scenes from Jet Lis US movies put together (the Chinese releases, well that's a whole different thing)
Tail Sting, where to start.. if the name didn't give it away, it's about scorpions, HUGE scorpions, on a plane..... oddly enough, tho it came out in 2001, the plot, shots and cast of characters (minus Sam Jackson natch) are IDENTICAL to Snakes on a Plane, only somehow even stupider. That's right, "Snakes on a Plane" was in fact a rip-off. The film is criminally stupid, the scorpions must have looked awful cos they are hardly in the film (mostly you get to see a stupid looking plastic tail or something, otherwise it's just really quick cut shots which always have obstructions- think the original Alien kinda, it's either dark or you only see a quick glimpse of something suggestive of a scorpion). practically every line uttered by every character in the first half of the movie is utterly transparent foreshadowing (such as "I'd rather be DEAD than sit in coach"- Onoes she din't!!)
That being said we had a blast soaking up the whole inept debacle, even the generously portioned stock footage was hilarious (how many times can one change planes in flight??). It is RiffTrax gold should they ever get around to it.
Hope these reviews are helpful

hhahha, that's awesome. i can't believe that SoaP is a rip-off. it's like if they made a ripoff of gobots...
nevermind the fact that the smaller a scorpion, the deadlier it is...
the 'transparent foreshadowing' reminds me of the simpsons episode where they parodied the 'poseidon adventure' - the scene begins with disco stu and his band playing "don't rock the boat [don't tip the boat over]" and proceeds through a speech where mr. burns calls the "neptune" the "world's most unflippable luxury liner" and offers the guests "pineapple upside-down cake" and "apple turnovers" before telling everyone that they will each receive free hats, and to make sure they give their "cap size".
and yes, i did
just watch that so i could get it all right. it starts about 14mins in.

yeah man, you should have seen our jaws hit the floor after finishing the film and checkin out IMDB and realizing that it predated SoaP by a few years. The foreshadowing is pretty much simpsons-esque, but it's real hard to tell if the film is in fact kinda supposed to be funny or if it's just super terrible- some bits were seemingly obvious gags but the people I watched the film with are pretty much genius level and it's hard to judge things made by morons from that perspective.
If you see it in a dollar bin it is totally worth the time, just watch it with some jokers and you'll enjoy it
