The whole Spider-Clone thing, too. If they had balls, they would've made it a year long at the most, and stuck with the "Ben is really the original" thing. Or kept Ben alive. Killing him was a pretty insane copout. And now they say it didn't happen. Or maybe it did. They're not clear.

Everything with Hush and Jason Todd after the original Hush series. The ending of that story was great: it was a bit ambiguous about how Hush knew so much about Batman, where Jason's body was, etc. Hell, we didn't even actually see Hush's face, so he still could've been Jason, which is how I interpreted the ending. But then they not only revealed for certain Hush was this other guy who shouldn't have so much knowledge about Bruce as an adult, but they brought back Jason as a totally half-assed anti-hero, and they erased Riddler's memory. Riddler knowing who Batman was is the only thing that has ever made him anything more than a fourth-rate Joker surrogate.

I was thinking about One More Day this weekend, and it's doomed to failure. Why? Because any situation you put Peter in with another woman, fans are going to have to this niggling, bothersome light going on in the back of his head that he's CHEATING on his wife. Whom he still loves (even though he doesn't remember). If what Mephisto said was true, it's always going to be in the back of his mind that something is amiss and fondling this other woman's breasts is WRONG. Thus making Spider-Man a jerk and a skeev. I also don't get how he was 30 years old (he had a birthday in issue 500!) and now he's 25ish. What?

Aunt May wasn't really dead, it was an actress hired to get reconstructive surgery, have voice lessons, and then actually DIE as part of the performance. How the fuck do you sell that to an actress?!

I'd blocked that shit from my mind. That was worse than the Clone Saga. Bringing Aunt May back and saying it was all a hoax was one of the biggest mistakes ever, particularly when her death was so wonderfully handled. Tell me you didn't get a lump in your throat when she admits to him on the observation deck of the Empire State Building that she's known he's been Spidey for years. Tell me that, and I'll call you a fucking liar.

I still prefer the "second" time she found out in ASM vol2 33.

The pertinent stuff is in this article. There's no real buildup to what she says; she knows she's dying and just springs it on him when they're alone. Very good stuff.

ASM 400 is a treasure. I'm not sure, but it might be the last "great" issue prior to the beginning of the end (Heroes Reborn).
