[insanejealousy]Oh how cool[/insanejealousy]
I wander all over EB. Town, action themes, space, community. Anywhere that has an interesting discussion I can upset with my non nostalgic, non purist views. Never in the technic or star wars forums though. I'm Brickenhead-town-dweller. Shit username I know. I must have been heavily sedated when I chose it.

yeah, that was a great find. i was allowed to put those ten torsos, three hairpieces and two heads in the BaM box instead of three fully-formed minifigures w/accessories, as is the intention with the BaM station. it depends on who you get, but they let you do that sometimes.
i'm vynsane. here, there, and everywhere. except for SSG, where i was, of course, darthvyn.

There's a Lego store about half an hours travel away from me. I've just never managed to get there. Which may be a good thing as once I start I can't stop with the damn PAB wall. I went to Legoland Windsor down South once and The staff were looking at me like I was insane. I was filling plastic bags rather than cups. Serious credit card abuse.
I think I'm moving house soon. Depending on what I think of the property as I've not seen it yet, but I'll get to have a dedicated Lego room if we move. In which case I'll actually be building stuff rather than just sorting bricks into draws and sighing wistfully. Luckily Jaie, my other half likes Lego too. So I only get mild nagging about spending too much on it.
This is my very humble minifig design
gallery
And sub gallery for
space ideas which is just a few thumbnail sketch ideas right now. Don't laugh. I just scan what I scribble at actual size then go in and tidy up, add colour etc. I can do better I'm just too lazy. And I'd rather do doodles and have someone else work them up into presentable computer modelled glory shots.

HA! they basically made your
lord of the jungle design! in fact, a lot of the ones you've made have since become CMFs!

There's a guy goes by the name of Toth on EB. He's now working as a designer for Lego but in viewing his portfolio I noticed that he had some pretty similar designs. His artwork is better than mine but I think I stay closer to how Lego pieces look and work. I wouldn't want to work for Lego though. Such a conservative company. Great ideas get eroded into more of the same. Piece counts dwindle. It must be so frustrating to be a designer for them.
So far I think it's reasonable to say my alien grey, lord of the jungle, butcher, surgeon, tennis coach and hippy have been used as a starting point. Plus a couple of accessory ideas like the new flower stem and the red toolbox. I've checked the viewing stats on the images and the one with the highest views is the inline skater so it'll be interesting to see if that shows up in series 8.
I wish I was able to generate them in a cad programme but my feeble brain can barely get to grips with paint shop pro so there's no chance of me wrangling polygons and rendering.

Was Tramp Steamer Captain based on Humphrey Bogart in African Queen?
You have a lot of great ideas. The pencil behind the carpenter's ear is a nice touch.

Thank you and no, I didn't consciously base him on anyone but I suppose at a subconscious level I was mining all those old movies.
The pencil is controversial. Apparently minifigs don't have ears unless they're a fantasy creature. I've never met a chippy who didn't have a pencil stub behind his ear though.
I should do more work on these. colour the ones that need it and tidy stuff up. I'll be tied up moving house the next couple of weeks but after that when the missus goes away and i have spare time I'll try and improve the designs so they're at least up to the standard of the jungle lord. I'm also going to ask around and see if I can find someone to render these as 3d models. The closest I've got is the barcode scanner and cash register of the shop assistant.

and, now, for the first time ever... a 'vynsane Modular Starfighter' in REAL BRICKS!

There are some parts that were reworked in comparison to the all-digital version I previously posted. The engine module is pretty extensively reworked and the wings are a little different.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooh, shiny... :drool I looked through your Eurobricks thread the other day. Can't help but wonder why Lego has never thought of modular spaceships. Bring some creativity to space themes instead of just build and play. A custom space craft builder set would certainly appeal to older kids and AFOLS.
I'm trying to design vehickles for my space theme idea. I've been looking at Space polic 3 prototypes and classic space stuff that didn't get produced for my inspiration.
I need a big shuttle/prisoner transfer. A smaller ground to orbit transfer craft. The prison Gubnors private shuttle and some patrol craft.
I also need to come up with some sort of criminal vehicle for attempted jail breaks.
The prison itself is giving me nightmares. I want it to be several sets that link together but the open back thing Lego likes hampers many ideas.
I doubt I'll get to this properly until I'm settled into my new house.

thanks, guys!
LEGO has obviously delved into modularity in the SPACE and Blacktron themes before. even Life On Mars had some of those ideals. nothing this compartmentalized, but the theory was there. it's mostly what inspired these.
some of those SP3 protos are awesome. if you want to add another inspiration source, there are a few larger cargo/passenger shuttles starting on
this page of this very topic...

Love the ribbed mid-section. ( fnar fnar

) And it'd be a great jumping in point but I'm looking to create something less smooth. I want big and blocky. Ugly utilitarian. For the prisoner transports at least. Big cockpit area and chunky engines with a frame between that prisoner pod cubes attach to.
The governor is ex military so I'm thinking maybe the spaceship equivalent of a Humvee. Or big black SUV.
Patrol craft will be a mixture of wheeled/half-track things and snub craft, though possibly the wheeled/half-track part is a base that the snub craft can detach from and re-attach to. I keep having to remind myself to include play features.
With the prisoners being transferred in pod cubes I suppose the prison will have a docking mechanism where cubes are received via an airlocked portal. It'd be nice to have some sort of revolving section to bring the cube into the prison but I've yet to think properly about that. I'm trying to put everything into six sets to fit the Summer theme model Lego has. Six sets and a couple of polybags.
My brain is saying go with a gray colour scheme but that'd be boring so I might go with white and dark orange. Any thoughts?

Not technically Lego, but I saw Kre-O Battleship sets today.
How fucking sad. I guess no one told Hasbro that the world is laughing at them about that.

Grey and olive would look cool but Lego would never go for it. Not in a non-licensed theme.
