One Bad Day:Two Face came out. Nowhere near as good as the Riddler one. A dumb decision by the new mayor to make Harvey the DA again, and the most predictable plot twist ever. Seriously. Batman should’ve had the exact same reaction I did when Harvey handed him the death threat letter. “You wrote this letter, Harvey.”

The art by Javier Fernandez was decent though.

Yeah, Two-Face was complete, predictable garbage.
Double garbage when compared to the Riddler issue.

Is this an alternate reality where he didn't become Two-Face?

Because letting him become the DA again because he was "cured" is the fucking stupidest thing ever. (Never mind DA's are elected everywhere I'm familiar with, not appointed.)

Everything post-2011 is an alternate reality. The Nu52/Convergence/Rebirth continuity “fix” has been an ongoing clusterfuck.

It was a super hard eyeroll for me. I knew it was setting up the story for this stand alone issue, but it was still stupid.

I have a large unread run of Detective and Mariko Tamaki wrote a good portion of it. I’ve liked her stuff in other books, but this doesn’t fill me with confidence that her Tec run will be good.

One Bad Day:Penguin came out. It wasn’t awful, not nearly as bad as the Two-Face one, but it was pretty bland. Penguin has lost control of the underworld to one of his subordinates, and he methodically gets it back. They set the bar too high with the Riddler issue. I can’t tell if these are supposed to be in continuity or not. Montoya is Commissioner in this one, and the Mayor was the “current” one in the Two-Face issue, but this doesn’t jive with where Penguin is based on the current Batman series.

Batman & Joker:Deadly Duo 1 also came out. It’s a little early to tell if the story is good(its a solid enough start) where Batman has to team up with Joker to stop a pack of feral/zombie Joker-esque killers running amok in Gotham. But the art is fucking amazing. Silvestri has still got it at age 64.

Tom King is also doing a Gotham City:Year One series. Starring PI Slam Bradley and set in the 1960’s it revolves around the kidnapping of a Wayne baby, and Richard Wayne not wanting the cops involved, so Bradley is brought in. It’s only on issue two but it’s good stuff so far.

100% agree on the One Bad Days. Two Face was bad and Penguin was just ok. Riddler is gong to be incredibly tough to top.
They are definitely not in-continuity, based on the ending of Riddler.

I skipped Deadly Duo for now. I might grab it later.

Gotham City: Year One has been good. I love gritty, old school nior crime stories.

In case you were wondering, and I’m sure you were all assuming, but in any case you can make it official…

Batman/Spawn is atrocious. It’s very pretty; Capullo drew it well enough. But Todd can’t write for shit.

Never you mind how I have a copy already…

So, it's a Spawn comic...

Didn't that come out thirty years ago? Do they acknowledge the earlier crossovers?

It didn’t feel like it. Spawn thinks Batman is the demon who has his wife’s soul, and Batman thinks Spawn is an assassin sent by the Court of Owls. I think Martha’s soul is trapped in one of the pearls from her necklace?? And conicidentally, the date of Wanda’s murder is the same date the Waynes died in the alley. Writing!!

The same date? Another Martha moment?

They make a ‘Martha’ joke, but I couldn’t say for sure it was intentional. Todd seems like the kind of pretentious douche who isn’t up on memes and wouldn’t know that he’d made a joke.

You decide. I laughed when I read it, but Batman doesn’t seem to the type to make a joke about his dead mother.

In the latest issue of Batman(issue 130) he survives a “fall” from the Moon all the way back to Earth in nothing but his Batsuit. I don’t care how badass Batman is, that’s a hard eyeroll from me dawg.

Batman/Joker 2 from Silvestri was pretty good.
