For FCBD, I hit up four LCS. The first was Mellow Blue Planet. As I’ve previously mentioned here, he’s outgrown the building he’s in and his inventory is so stacked and cluttered there is literally no room to walk anywhere in his shop. I was going to look for some IDW GIJoe oneshots in his backroom, but traffic was higher because it was FCBD, and downstacking 30 boxes to make room to wiggle into an area 1/4th the size of a closet to look for a book he might not even have….I took five free issues and promised I’d come back on a day when it wasn’t FCBD. I feel bad not buying anything when they’re giving me free shit, but there it is.
The second shop was ComiQ RaCk(the Q and C are capitalized because we are in the Quad Cities. It makes sense if you see the logo.) He was selling $100 mystery boxes that had “$200” worth of stuff in them, but I didn’t bite. I got my five free books, and also bought a recent issue of Batman:Last Halloween, just so I spent money there.
The third shop was back on the Iowa side of the river. In This Issue Comics in Bettendorf. Picked up five free issues, and found six issues in the $1 bins. Finished two Batman minis; Batman Beyond Neo Year, Batman/Bigby Wolf, and almost finished Batman:The Knight.

The fourth and final shop was an LCS that closed a few years ago, but the owner has just reopened on this side of the river. Filled a short box for $60(man, I remember when it was fill a short box for $25 or $30. Stupid inflation…) and that’s just what I did. And upstairs they literally have two rooms full of $1 boxes, but I had neither the time nor money to go thru them. Looking forward to heading back there with more disposable income in a few weeks. But here’s the 133 books I got for my $60.

Captain America 5. A variant cover homaging the ‘first’ issue of Cap’s ongoing(that was formerly Tales of Suspense, so it was actually issue 100) but it’s celebrating Wolverine’s 50th anniversary, so all the characters on the cover are Wolverine variants. Confused?
Crisis on Infinite Earths 1. Facsimile of the original, complete with original ads.
Cyborg 1,2. From the newest Dawn of DC mini. Still need 4 and 5.

A small score from the mall show this weekend. A mere 22 issues. Paid $1 for the majority of them. I’ll just lump them altogether.

Batwoman 1. Got the NU52 and Rebirth issues mixed up.
Crime Syndicate 2. Variant cover. Just need issue 3.
DC Presents 2, 5, 8, 44, 45, 50, 61, 64, 70, 71, 93. A nice chunk of this late 70s/early 80s series. Missing like 17 issues, but a few of them are super HTF expensive.
Doom Patrol 1. Still missing a couple issues from Gerard Way’s Young Animal series.
Kingdom Come 1-4. I had the TPB, but finding the entire Prestige series for $4?? Hell yeah.
Multiversity: New Thunderworld Adventures oneshot. More than a decade later, I finally found the last Multiversity oneshot I was missing. Feels great crossing this one off my list.
100 Bullets 7, 64. A couple more from this series that isn’t a high priority to complete, but I find issues here and there.
ROM 18. One of the two X-Men issues. Only $1! Nice.



Next Sunday, the guy who hasn’t been here in several years is finally back in town to another show. I used to be able to fill a long box, but that’s getting harder to do. We will see how it goes.

After a 4 1/2 year hiatus, Alan* returned to the Quad Cities with his dealer show at the local Ramada Inn. Usually I fill up a long box for $110 bucks. But since it’s getting to the point where I have everything(and the books I’m missing aren’t gonna be in cheap boxes) I came away with 100 books for $40. And then spent another $23 on 18 $1-2 books at a couple other tables.

Batman Beyond 13. From the original 1999 run. For no particular reason.
Batman:Arkham Knight 1. Almost done with this video game tie in.

Justice League of America 1. They did a gimmick where the main cover had the team planting a giant US Flag ala Iwo Jima. Then they did 52 variant covers with each state’s flag instead of the US flag. Plus D.C. and Puerto Rico. I found ten different state flag variants. And I already had a bunch. Still missing a couple dozen though.

ohmigod, you DO know him! But for real, he’s the guy that would do 3-4 shows a year, and also has the yearly garage sale. He sells entire long boxes for $110. Whenever I post in the Big Score topic, I’d say 80-85% of what I’ve bought, I got from him.

Today, I went to my third comic show in as many weekends. Planet Funk-Con was at the convention center downtown. Unlike the other shows, like the one at the mall, this one costs $10 to get into. The reason being is that they have “celebrities” and panels and cosplay events and shit. None of which I care about, but that’s why the admission price. I only found 44 books at four(five) different tables. I mostly paid $1 each. There were a couple that were more; at one table he had 50% off everything, so a $10 book was $5, a $1 is 50 cents. I found 8 books and paid $10, which in the grand scheme is close enough to $1 each.

Adventureman 7. Finished this series. There’ve been two more follow up minis, of which I have none of the issues.
American Vampire 2, 19. Just missing 1 and 27 and an anthology, and I’ll have all the AmVamp books. I wonder if they are any good.
Avengers:Tech-On Avengers 2. I may or may not have this?
Batgirl 23. I really want the Josh Middleton variant cover, but it’s super crazy expensive for some reason, so I got this just so my run is filled. Still need 16 and 18 from the Rebirth series.
Batman 2. Just need issue 7 and my Nu52 run is complete! This is the $10 book I paid $5 for, and justified it actually being barely more than a $1.
Batman/Outsiders 1, 2. I had the variant covers for this run. The table had $1 each or get 30 for $20 and I had 28 in my pile, so I threw these in to round it up.
Batman Adventures Continue Season Two 4. Still need 3 and 7.

By no means a ‘Big Score’ whatsoever, but I noticed I was missing an issue of Daredevil so I went to one of the LCS in town I don’t frequent that much(it’s a 20 minute drive, whereas my main guy is about 4-8 minutes depending on traffic…not important)

But they had recently acquired a large collection from someone and there was quite a selection of items from the 60s up to almost current books. Obviously, some were way out of my price range,; I overheard the owner tell another customer they had sold ASM 129 for $3600 for example. But I did find a handful of books between $3 and $6 that I was fairly certain wouldn’t pop up again in my searches for awhile, so I just grabbed them.

Elseworld’s Finest:Supergirl & Batgirl oneshot. A Prestige issue from 1997.
Injustice 12 and Injustice:YearTwo 1 and 7. I’m about 8 issues away across the first four years/series from having a full run.
Power of Shazam 42. Just need the Preview “0” issue, the Annual, and issue 46 for a full run of this late 90s run.
Superman:Last Son of Earth 2. Finished this two-issue Prestige elseworld series.
X-Men Classics 2. Finished this reprint mini series from 1983 that preceded the more recognizable ongoing X-Men Classics book.

Quick visit to two LCS yesterday. Found some recent back issues I had missed, because sometimes my guy will only order the Variant covers and he only gets 1 or 2 copies. But I also found some back issues I was looking for. Some I paid $1, $2, $3, or cover price for.

Absolute Batman 9. After I ‘dropped’ this series, I decided to undrop it and had to find the issue I missed.
Doctor Strange:Fall Sunrise 4. Finished this Trad Moore mini that I didn’t particularly enjoy, but I am compelled to be a completist.
Green Lantern Season Two 1. Finished this Grant Morrison series, but still need a couple from ‘Season 1’.

Hardcase 20, 21, 24. Need six more issues from this Ultraverse title.

It’s my Anniversary! So naturally, I got up super early and drove 90 minutes to the middle of fuckall nowhere Illinois for the annual garage sale. I only came home with 88 books for $35. While bingeing a chunk of Carnage books, I got curious about what issue they’d be on if they did Legacy numbering for his series like they do everyone else.
Which led to me to cbrealm’s page with all the Carnage titles on it. From there, I clicked on the Venom vs Carnage series and saw the astronomical prices for all four issues. 1 goes for $60, 2 for $100, and the last two are $20 each.
Then, I clicked the ebay link…just to see what they are actually going for, because cbrealm isn’t always accurate.

Short story long, I splurged and bought the entire miniseries for $50.

Another show at the mall. I found 31 books at various tables for $1 each, another 31 at various tables for $2 each. Another guy had $10 B1G1, so I got 4 higher priced books for $20. And finally, since much of the stuff remaining on my list is getting pricier, I bought some Venom books to fill holes in my run. 3 at one table, and 5 more at a second table. I spent $45 for 8 books, but I made headway on my Venom run.

Dark Horse Presents 19. An $8 anthology issue that had a cool ‘X’ cover. X is Dark Horse’s edgy vigilante character if you didn't remember.
Doom Patrol 2. Still need 13 more issues.
Dragon’s Claws 1, 2, 4, 6-9. A Marvel UK series from the 90s. I had a single issue because it had Death’s Head in it. Just need two more now to finish the run.

Marvel Mangaverse: Fantastic Four 1. Don’t know if this was a oneshot or a miniseries.

Star-Lord Special Edition oneshot. A collected edition of Star-Lord’s early BW appearances from 1982. I only paid $5 for it, but the book is in pretty rough shape. Creased cover, the spine is torn, etc.
Venom:Sign of the Boss 1. Finished the mini.
Venom:The Finale 1-3. Finished the mini.
Venom:Space Knight 11, 12. Finished the series.
Venom 1, 4, 25. From Remender’s run starring Flash Thompson. Eight more issues to go. And 17 more Venom issues from every series for a complete Venom run.

Went to a Toy Show across the river today. Mostly toys, but a few guys had comics. I’ll post a more complete list of what I got later. BUT…Found this bad boy for $5. It’s not super great condition, but that’s not the point is it.
