Re: What have you watched lately?
Watched The Conspirator a few days ago. Really good flick. The first 15-20 minutes play out exactly like I imagined them while reading Manhunt.
After that, the plot of the movie is summarized in the book, which I guess is irrelevant since the The Conspirator wasn't based on Manhunt.
Thinking about throwing Bad Santa in right now.

Went to The Descendants today. Well acted Oscar-bait. I enjoyed it. I was particularly impressed with the girl playing Clooney's daughter. And not just because she's a hot little 20 year old playing a 17 year old in a bikini for half the movie.
And as good as this was, I liked Drive better. Drive is my Best Picture pic so far.

Saw Sherlock Holmes:Game of Shadows. A worthy sequel with plenty of action, humor, and mystery. Even though they mentioned Reichenbach early in the film, and clearly showed a waterfall in an establishing shot, I didn't make the connection until Holmes and Moriarty went over it. That was a bit shocking. I guess no Holmes 3 then.
Sorry, I don't consider that a spoiler. That's like telling you the Titanic sinks at the end of the movie.

Bullshit, I say. The "real" Holmes was resurrected Flash-style after plunging to his death.

Re: What have you watched lately?
I thought something was a bit hinky when every time they asked Bob Downey or Jude Law or somebody about a sequel during their late night rounds. Usually you get a "We'll see how this one does" or "Mmmmaybe. If we can find a good script.". But they've been all "yah! They're working on it already!!" that triggered my BS-o-meter.

Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol.
The most awesome action movie of the year. Brad Bird is goddamn genius and every movie from now on should be directed by him and only him. Each act/set piece in this film would be enough to fill any other action film all by its lonesome, and this movie has five, six, I lost track there were so many.
Is there a TVTrope or meme that concerns people showing up briefly in film trailers because their character dies early on in the film? I'm trying to think of examples. Like James Marsden in X-Men 3. From the trailer I could tell he dies in the film. But it happened in a couple of the last films I saw. I had incorrectly assumed Josh Holloway's character might be the twist villain in MI4, due to his lack of presence in the trailer except for that one cool shot of him leaping off the roof backwards while shooting bad guys. But it turns out that's his only scene in the film, as he gets killed within sixty seconds of the films opening.

Was Dooku in the ROTS trailer?
I know there have been a ton of others, but they're not coming to me now.

Re: What have you watched lately?
I just watched both the teaser and theatrical trailer to check. Both have shots of Anakin from the Dooku battle, and the theatrical trailer shows Dooku off to the left side of the frame as Anakin swings his saber at him (though it's hard to even tell who it is without knowing the movie).anarky wrote:Was Dooku in the ROTS trailer?

Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

He was going to make espresso.
That must've been on TV. One of my friends who's a huge fan said on the ol' Facebox that he was watching it.

Re: What have you watched lately?
Went to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Nipple Ring today. It was a good murder mystery, with some clunky subplots wedged in. I figured out the killer early on, but only by virtue of casting. For those of you who've read the books, do the sequels have Daniel Craig's character in them, or is it just Lisbeth?

Both. The "Millennium Trilogy" (as its called), is about both characters.

Took the kids to Warhorse yesterday. It's the first decent Spielberg film I've seen in many years.

Re: What have you watched lately?
From what I hear, Tintin could be the second. I'm hoping to swing by the local theater (yes, despite what I say, there is a local theater, and it's cheap. they only have three tiny screens and rarely show new movies anyone wants to see, though, but that's fine for taking my daughter to a film on the rare occasion they're playing it.) and catch it tomorrow.
