Re: Nintendo Wii
Turns out you can't take 'em back to TRU, but WM takes anything back. Yeah, I'm dishonest, but you wanna tell me they're not going to sell fucking SMG at Christmas?
I got a Wii Zapper (with the Link game) and three Nunchuks instead. And I grabbed Mrs A the Harry Potter game on sale at Best Buy. She's been wanting that one.

Re: Nintendo Wii
I finally bought a Wii, but I got it home and some numbnuts at the factory had left out the joystick! I had to take it back, and the store didn't have any more, so I couldn't exchange it. Bummer.
"Jim? Who the hell is this 'Jim' character? I was gonna say something about that guy and his bad outfit, but you start talking about Jim. C'mon, tell me who Jim is. Are you cheating on me?"

Re: Nintendo Wii
We've decided to get the Wii after Christmas. Probably the end of Jan.
I'm thinking the first purchase will be to get the controller that comes with the 9 mini-games (pool, ping pong, etc.). Not sure after that. Probably Mario Galaxy.

Re: Nintendo Wii
WiiPlay. Definitely a good first game. The reviews seem to suck, but they're by people who expect Halo 3 out of a game that's essentially $10 with the purchase of a controller. Personally, I think it's one of the best of all time.
If you're sure of getting a Wii (and this goes for Rollo, too, since he has one), Circuit City has Red Steel for $7.99 this week. I've not played it yet, but figured it was a "can't lose" for that price. In the absence of a proper samurai game for the Wii, I'll take one about katana-toting Yakuza. And it has a splitscreen vs mode, which is always a plus.

Re: Nintendo Wii
That was my thinking about the price.
I heard some bad reviews about Red Steel, and they were from people who generally like the Wii.
We were in at Gamestop today. My wife has the DS, and we've had trouble finding the stylus for original DS. Most places only have DS Lite accessories. While we were there, an older couple came in and were looking at Wii accessories. They had to be in their 60s. They said they are addicted. The wife said her husband plays Wii golf all day. No wonder they are hard to find, they have transcended the normal gaming audience.

Re: Nintendo Wii
Vyn won't admit it yet, but he's one of us now.
I'm totally fucking hooked on Mario Party 8. That is the best fucking game ever made. Well, close, anyway. Kung Fu is hard to top.
And I may be getting a wireless router this weekend using our new Best Buy giftcards (one of Mrs A's brothers always gives those for Christmas). If I do, I'll need to buy either the classic controller or a wireless GameCube controller.
One real gripe: The Wii is backward-compatible with the GameCube, but you have to use GameCube controllers. Given the way we (and most folks, I'm sure) have our Wii set up, it's not a good idea to use corded controllers, since you block the screen. I'm still hooking up the ol' Cube to play that shiznit.
However, a wireless GameCube controller would be an ideal solution. Trouble is, stupid Nintendo stopped producing the Wavebird. You've got to get a third-party controller. Reviews are bad, and my experience is that they're generally not as well-made. (In most things, I wouldn't care about the brand. But all my off-brand corded GC controllers broke within a year, and I'd rather that not happen with a more expensive wireless one.)
Still, I might get one, to play the classic games and one-player GC games.
But, then again, it's easy to hook up the Cube, and the classic controller is cheaper than a third-party wireless dealio.
Also, for the online points, if you're willing to wait a week or so for them, amazon.com has the 2000-point cards for $17.99, with free shipping. Makes the games a wii bit cheaper.

Re: Nintendo Wii
yeah, man, i'm fuckin' psyched...
i got the wiiplay/extra remote, a nunchuck, a classic controller, godzilla unleashed, spider-man friend or foe, and metroid prime 3: corruption. can't wait...
supposedly you can play the NES classics without the classic controller, as you only need the d-pad and the "1" and "2" buttons from the wiimote. not sure about the validity of that claim, but that's what i've heard. anything from SNES and higher may require the classic controller accessory.
as soon as i have mine set up i'll post my wii number so we can have our miis mingle. and so we can play any games that overlap.
oh, and i'm glad that i have two wavebirds, and can put my wired controller away with my GC...

Re: Nintendo Wii
My wife declared that we are officially in the market for a Wii. We checked KMart and Target today, no luck. I'll be online looking for you guys shortly after we find one.
Not sure what games I'm going to download yet, but NES Ice Hockey will probably be #1 on my list. Already have the avatar.

Re: Nintendo Wii
I've got several games we picked up because they were on sale, but I've not even opened yet. Metroid Prime 3 is one of them. I've also got Zelda.
I've decided that the first game I download will be Metroid (Classic). That game fucking rocks. I don't care how many times I've beaten it. And Mrs A hasn't played it and loves side-scrollers, which is another plus.
Definitely let me know how Friend & Foe is.
I'll have to postpone the router a bit. We have to get one anyway, but there are a lot more choices than I thought, and they cost more. I need to do some research.

Re: Nintendo Wii
Ok, I got the Wii. (and wiiplay and Mario Galaxy). We created Miis of ourselves, my daughter created another one she called "Princess", and I created Abe Lincoln.
How do I figure out this thing so I can visit you guys?

Re: Nintendo Wii
there's somewhere in the options where you can add "friends" and those are the wii consoles you can communicate with and play online against. you also have to set your miis to "travel" and let them "mingle" when you create/edit them. other, more experienced wiiners will have to fill you in on exactly how to do those things...
i've created a bunch of miis already. downloaded a few from the "check mii out" channel as well. i made jamie hyneman from mythbusters, harry potter, peter parker, and a v for vendetta based (and improved) on one we downloaded from check mii out. we also downloaded napoleon dynamite, jack black, darth vader, weird al yankovic, and a frog. we also of course have the family in there. and the mrs. created "ugly girl" - she just put it together as ugly as possible.

Dude... we are totally Bizarros of one another. I made the most ugly woman Mii I could devise and named her "Fuggles." She's like Barbra Streisand's uglier sister!

Re: Nintendo Wii
I'd like to see the Vader, Weird Al, and frog. I wanted to make our dog, but realized it wasn't possible. He would probably look like Brian from Family Guy.
My daughter and wife made the Mii of me. It looks more like the blue Wiggle than it does me.
I plan on making Hulk Hogan and Rocky Balboa, mostly for use in Wii boxing. Its just a matter of time before I make Elvis as well.
