Actually they picked up the new Astro City run by Kurt Busiek. I've been reading this title for years (it was originally under the "Homage" imprint from Wildstorm I believe, same as "Leave it to Chance") and it's excellent, in case you want to check it out.

I read some of the older Astro City stuff and found it all very derivative.

I think a lot of books from the late 90s were only marginally decent, but since they were surrounded by utter dreck, everyone thinks they're awesome.

It's derivative inasmuch as Busiek is using reflections of things he likes from the pre-existing comic book universes, much like Warren Ellis did in Planetary. He provides touchstones so that you're in a familiar place while reading the comic. The focus of the stories though are usually on quite normal folks who happen to have powers or co-exist with those who do in interesting ways.

Eh, I don't remember much about it, except that felt like the Fantastic Four meets the Jetsons and they lived in Alan Moore's Top 10. It was clever and all, and showcased Busieks penchant for heavy continuity porn (even if it was all implied) but I felt like I'd read it before in a 60s comic.

That might explain why more people don't hate Kingdom Cum instead of thinking it's as good as sex.

I couldn't be any more late to the party, but I just finished the first 2 volumes of FABLES, after failing in my first attempt awhile ago. No idea what my malfunction was, these were fantastic. I will likely try to track down volumes 3 & 4 in short order, but I kinda want to read Moore's Swamp Thing next.

So DC have spent quite a bit of money producing an audio book for Sandman. The audible app from Amazon was offering the first 2 episodes for free to keep, even if I cancel my trial before I have to pay. I downloaded the app & the books, gave it about 10 or 15 minutes then fell asleep.... but what I heard was really, really well produced. I'm looking forward to continuing on with the story in this format.

I am missing Fables 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9.

There’s an auction on ebay right now(or rather a Buy it Now) for 1-5 for $45+ $8shipping.
Those five issues, according to cbrealm, are $110 total, with the first issue being the big one at $65.

I’m debating on whether I should pull the trigger for what’s basically $10 an issue. I’ll find the other three issues fairly easy I think.
Then I’ll have the full series and can binge it when I’m caught up with my other reading.
