I really can't take to the focus pulling shaky cam thing. Y'know that camera work we got in AOTC during the battle above Coruscant? There was some of that as the Falcon flies into the exhaust of the crashed Star Destroyer. I don't like it because it stops me getting involved with the action. My brain has to deal with weird spatial stuff and 'bam!' I'm out of the moment. Other than that it looked like a sci-fi flick. Not sure I see anything to excite me but there was a distinct lack of any alien life besides Chewbacca who I never cared for anyway.
The fin at the front of the new style Star Destroyer is interesting. More like a battering ram. Maybe the Empire finally did some crash tests and figured that SD's had a weak point right there.
The black Stormtrooper had a Boba Fett vibe. Not sure if that's a good thing. Daisy Ridley looks great on camera though. I can see Daisy Ridley merchandise being very popular with gentlemen.
Interesting that John Boyega pulls the exact same actions/expression in both trailers. One would hope this isn't the extent of his acting prowess - Shocked look, profuse sweating.
It's just one short trailer. An enormous amount of which is given over to shots of Imperial forces. No-one could possibly make a critique of the movie based on that. Further trailers and tv spots are bound to reveal more and the press will be awash with photos as we head towards xmas. There are going to be aspects that people will pick up on. How could they not? I don't see any point in bashing on people's opinions. you like something or you don't. As I say, I don't like that particular shaky cam technique that crept into the films during action sequences. And the dialogue George wrote for the prequels was awful in many places. If I have one criticism of the prequels it's that they felt too technical and lacked real organic emotion. If JJ can bring that organic feeling to this movie, he'll have won me over. If it feels like actors simply hitting their marks and delivering words, then he's lost me and the film is pants.

The local news just showed the trailer. During clip of Vader's helmet, an old South Park episode popped into my mind. What if they clone Vader, but didn't know the DNA is messed up and for 90 minutes you have him walking around yelling "Me bad? P'chomp p'chomp p'tooie chomp!"?

Just saw a post of facebook that may explain the whole "We're home" comment.
I'm not sure if it was a spoiler, rumor or speculation, so I'll hide it.

It refers to Han and Chewie finally getting the Falcon back. After how long, and from whom, I have no idea.

At first I thought so too, but taking another look, they might be inside.

The biggest surprise for me so far is that my oldest daughter (now 13) said she wants to see this new movie. She hasn't seen all of the first 6 movies, so I'm not sure why all of a sudden she's interested in Star Wars. Anyway, I'm just going to go with it. I'll show her Episodes 1-7 in order and see how it goes. Don't worry prequel lovers, I will let her form her own opinion about them.

By "in order", please tell me you mean 4-6 then 1-3 after she has let those settle for a minute!

You left out the Ewok movies.

No Ewok movies or Clone wars cartoons unless she asks about them. Definitely not the Holiday Special. Just episodes 1-6. Hell, I doubt I could sit through an Ewok movie.

I thought about showing her 4-6 then 1-3, but it didn't seem right. We have an intern at work who saw them 1-6. He would have been around 9 years old when EP 1 came out. He saw them in 1-6 order and actually preferred the prequels over the original, but he said he didn't consider himself a big fan.

Wow. Episode 1 came out 16 years ago.

That's the same gap of time between Jedi and Episode 1. And remember how huge a gap that felt to us as kids??

Now it feels like a blip. 16 years??!

My daughter just turned 17 on Wednesday.
That also cannot be correct. Because that would make me FUCKING OLD.

It's 15 years since I joined that other site to talk about action figures and had my first interaction with a certain El Chuxter. Whatever happened to that douchebag I wonder.

Bah, now I have to go over there & see when my account was created... I'm guessing 2001 but we'll have to see.

April 8, 2002 I guess, leading up to the release of AOTC. I guess that sounds about right thinking back.
