The internet is nothing more than a big goddamned toy
I fucking hate how there's too much shit, and not enough actual important info online.
When I woke up, there was a huge brushfire about 20 miles east of my house. I said goodbye to my wife and daughter, and drove to work--about thirty miles south-southwest.
I didn't think a whole lot about the fire. Sure, it's big, but I've been closer to bigger ones during my time in SoCal.
Until about an hour ago, when I was told that the only road that goes from my work to my house has been closed because of the fire.
I've been frantically looking for info online. After all, when you find out that a wildfire that was 20 miles away in one direction is now blocking roads in another, it kinda makes you piss your pants.
So this fire is the top news story on Yahoo! News right now. I know that a shitload of people have been evacuated, and that at least three firefighters have been killed. But, goddammit, I can find nothing on the closure of a pretty fucking major road.
What current news there is apparently is only available as streaming video or audio. Fucking wonderful. I can't do either here at work.
The Forest Service has a site with supposedly current info on all the latest fires. The fucking thing hasn't been updated in six days. I know from the news that there have been at least a half dozen new wildfires that have started and been put out since this lazy-ass webmaster updated his site.
Various transportation agencies have official sites, too. There are apparently no incidents. It's not a traffic collision or construction, so I suppose it doesn't warrant spreading the info.
I've exhausted every motherfucking possibility I can think of. I'm not worried that my house is going to burn down. I talked to my mother-in-law and, while she has the heaviest Vietnamese accent I've ever heard, I gathered that the fire is moving in the opposite direction. I'd just like to know if I can possibly be home before dark, or if I have to drive a whole fucking 75 miles out of the way to get home.
Stupid internet. I can find the same goddamned AP story 4,863 times. But something so important, jackshit.
