"The Room"- RiffTrax version

Saw this the other night and it was funny as fuck- if you're somehow unfamiliar with it, it was released 2003 and it is easily in the top 5 most awful movies ever (Plan 9, IMO, is nowhere near as bad as many films I've seen despite people seeming to love calling it "worst film ever"- they obviously haven't seen "Mitchell", "Danger-Death Ray" or "Samson" among others)

I can't imagine what it would be like without the RiffTrax commentary, it is a kind of character drama except that it was written, produced and directed (AND starred in) by a complete idiot. It is SO bad- there's several really long softcore sex scenes in it that are somehow abominable- one of which had to be used twice (cut slightly differently the second time) cos the female lead never wanted to be near the naked star again (if what I have read around the net is true, the director/star insisted that the sex scene be shot first and the assembled people watched in horror)

Do yerselves a favour, if you can find it get the RiffTrax version. You WILL uagh (so long as you like the MST3K treatment)

The film redefines a LOT of stuff, particularly "OHAI" :mabs:

I bought the DVD several months ago but my friends and I are waiting for a good time to watch it, along with Vince Offer's Underground Comedy Movie and, of course, Mac and Me, in the second annual Macathon. Everything I've seen from it has been fucking hilarious, so I can't wait to see the whole movie.

No, no Rifftrax . . . I want to watch it at least once "pure" and then with commentaries or whatever.

jiminy fuck, a "friend" (an actual buddy but dammit) found and burned a copy of the commentary free version- I swear it might do serious damage to me, fuck is it bad, here is a sample

well, we watched the "pristine" version of the fucking godawful piece of rotten shit yesterday. It was actually nowhere near as difficult a task as we had anticipated- much of the dialogue was so bad that the RiffTrax team talked right over it so there were some truly stupid exchanges that weren't quite audible in the RT version.

I still think watching the RT version first would be the best course of action as without knowing what exactly makes the film so bad it's hilarious, it might be hard to get through, what with the whole "making almost NO sense" thing and all

I finally saw this gem last night. I went to a midnight madness showing of it with some friends (not the aforementioned ones; we still need to do that) and it was fucking amazingly bad. I loved how every line Johnny said was so obviously dubbed-over, and you could still barely understand him. The sex scenes were hilarious, with his awkward-ass thrusting and just generally weird body. Even the woman was gross - I didn't need to see her tits so many goddamn times. I also loved the 20 different shots of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the extended opening scene with numerous San Francisco insert shots, just to make damn sure we know where this is taking place. I also loved how every scene with a character was basically the same thing; the mom comes in, Lisa tells her how she doesn't love Johnny anymore, the mom says Lisa can't support herself, and then the mom has to go home for an unspecified reason (maybe it's the once-mentioned breast cancer she "definitely" has), and there's at least three scenes exactly like that.

Fuck. I need to see it again.

JJL, do yourself a favour and find the RiffTrax version, it adds an expansive new dimension to the film, yet doesn't ruin the "clean" version one bit.

Also- as I posted on yer FB, did you like the CG bits??

OH and also also, look it up on Wiki, if you don't know the numbers behind it, the facts are fucking mind-warping. Six MILLION dollars invested in that fucking film :ducks:

The audience was encouraged to talk and joke about the movie, so it was kind of like a "live" Rifftrax sort of thing. People threw plastic spoons at the screen when that framed spoon picture showed up, and clapped to the R&B that played during the sex scenes, and so on. But I'll look it up.

What CGI do you mean? There was some awful green screen work on the roof, since it took place in San Francisco but wasn't filmed there. Was there other stuff?

Sorry yeah I was using incorrect terminology, I meant that awful greenscreen shit on the roof, on my TV I never noticed it tho.
What about the "football game" scene with the awful audio, that was one of my favourite bits :mabs:

The football stuff was great; I loved how they were all wearing tuxes, but we never figure out where they're going that would require tuxes.
