Plugging Canadian content here. Jeff Lemire is a Canadian born comic creator who, as of late, has been working for DC. I read a review of a collection of stories (previously released as separate graphic novels) going under the name ESSEX COUNTY. I found a copy of the collected version (very big, thick volume on awesome heavy paper) for $15 at the store near my parents' place. I wouldn't have paid full cover to roll the dice on this book, but now that I'm done 2/3 of the content I certainly would. Uncolored black & white panels of pure rustic, rural Canadiana - hockey, growing old on the farm, drinking too much.... this is very, very good stuff and has brought a tear to my eye once so far.

I have no idea if/how you guys could track this book down, but I give my heartiest thumbs up.... well maybe one idea....

Everybody raves about Lemire, but the two things I've read of his are SweetTooth and the abruptly cancelled Superboy series. Neither of which tooted my horn.
I think there's a tendency for Internet Snobs, who are in such a constant frazzle to be hip and say they're the only ones who are reading/listening/watching the next hot thing, they overinflate "what's new and hot" outside of realistic expectations.
Jeff Lemire is DCs answer to Matt Fraction.
