Cringeworthy Movie Moments

As a manly man, I can take a lot of gruesomeness in films. But sometimes there are scenes in movies that just make your asshole pucker and stick with you. And on subsequent viewings, you actually debate on whether to look away or perhaps even fast forward by the scene.

Also, what scenes messed up your head as a kid? Or a teen? Or a young adult?

The curbstomp scene in American History X. Holy fuck, I just go cold in my core thinking about it.

I've built up a resistance after many many viewings, but the Icicle scene in Die Hard 2 freaked me out for many years.

The stomping in the Elevator in Drive. It's mostly the sound, which I can handle, but they cut back to seeing it at exactly the wrong moment. Grrrrrross.

The brief video of what happened to the previous crew in Event Horizon. That one is more of a psychological fuck. It probably lasts less than 24 frames, but it still creeps my shit out after one viewing all these years later.

The way Emilio Esteves goes out in Mission:Impossible. As with the Die Hard scene, I have a phobia about getting skewered in the face. Ugh.

I can handle it now, but when I was a kid the scene from Krull with the room with all the spikes was awful. My ten year old mind filled in a lot of the blanks. What a shitty way to go out.
