Love Actually

I've been wanting to see this for a while, since it has about a billion cool English actors, and finally got a chance over the weekend. It's actually a really good movie. It doesn't hurt at all that English people have no qualms about showing nipplage every couple of minutes during a "cute romantic comedy." Nor do cameos by Denise Richards, Elisha Dushku, and Shannon Elizabeth (talk about a heinie-touching convention [beard]) and the great Rowan Atkinson.

I think there was extensive discussion of this in the Best/Worst of 2003 topic. Or the 2004 topic. Whichever year it came out. I saw it with my girlfriend with little to no expectations ( Chick flick...) and it rocketed into my top five for that year. There are so many brilliant performances. Too many, really. I particularly like the scene where Kiera Knightly is watching the wedding video and just watching the poor guy just shrivel up inside and have to excuse himself and then all the frustration and impotent rage he's feeling after he leaves is so brilliantly heartbreaking. Or Emma Thomson's quiet breakdown in the bedroom after she gets the CD and realizes her husband's infidelity. Wow.

Yeah, Snape's a tool.

I especially love that the more farfetched conclusions come to pass (like the kid and the American singer's daughter, and the guy who comes to America to meet chicks), while the ones you think you see coming a mile away don't (the one girl picks her crazy brother over the guy she likes, Snape cheats on Trelawney).

And the one line that would make this a truly awesome movie even if everything about it sucked: "There was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus Christ?" "Duuuuuuuuh."

If you've not seen this, do so immediately, or you're a Flornbi. Unless you're already a Flornbi, in which case you wouldn't appreciate it, and the rest of us would appreciate if you just stopped breathing.

Jeez. You think you know a guy, you even feel comfortable writing disgusting hypothetical questions about orally pleasuring Bea Arthur on his site, and he springs a bombshell like this on you?

So you didn't like this or Batman Begins? You are indeed the flornbest of the florn. I think--no, I know that you are, even as you read this, inserting into your rectum a tampon in the shape of pyrofreak.

I agree with Chux, it's one of the best "romantic comedies" I've ever seen. The kid and Liam Neeson are just magic.

No, I'm a big girl. I know it's totally gay...... but I just can't help loving this movie. It's got a wicked soundtrack (featuring KELLY CLARKSON) and a cast of a million stars. It's funny and sad, poignant and silly, thought provoking and yet inundated with tom foolery. I can't imagine that any of you jokers who claim this is bad have watched it..... not liking it would make about as much sense as not liking sunlight. It even has titties and the f word for Chrissakes.

This movie kicked ass. Down right hilarious. British comedies rock. Hugh
Grant is a pisser. Liam rocked in this flick. Too bad for Emma as Rickman dogged her. Shame it was.

The only one I didnt like was the dude coming to AMerica, those girls in the bar where just way to overboard IMO.

Vyn, you suck, you need to re-evaluate your life and watch this flick again and again.

Oh, and the singer was damn funny too.

mrs. vyn and i watched it a while ago, and we both were waiting for something to happen and then the end credits rolled. not only that, but the intermingling of the stories seemed a little forced and yet not really that much of an intermingling. it was either too much or not enough. i can't remember. maybe we'll give it another try... but i doubt it.

pansies.

The widescreen edition is on sale for $4.99 this week at Best Buy.

It's about damned time the widescreen was less than $20. The foolscreen has been a cheap bin WM flick for a few years now.
