Your Mission, should you choose to accept it...

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it...

Post by Eternal Padawan »

..is to go check out MI3. See I'm a huge J.J. Abrams fan after watching Alias and Lost for the past few years. And watching what he can do with a huge budget is just amazing. After an intensely emotional pre credit opening sequence, the movie jumps back and then unfolds towards its inevitable conclusion. But even knowing the outcome, you still are on the edge of your seat. Awesome stuff. Better than the first. WAY better than the sequel. Go check it out people.

This Topic will self destruct in 5 seconds.

I am glad to see another forum folk saw and loved this movie.

I was very engaged with the film even though I knew what the final outcome would be. Abrams has a knack for showing us the present and then giving us a great past that led to that point.

And that helicopter chase, holy zombie jesus, that made my beard grow an inch while watching it.

Hey Tom Cruise,

Quit hogging all the fucking 'movies based on old Spy TV Shows'.

I just read you're playing Napoleon Solo in Guy Ritchie's Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie.
And the Lone Ranger just signed on as the Russian guy. Hey, remember when that guy was almost Batman for a second?

Yeah. Anyway...

So I'm watching Ghost Protocol today. One of the first big set pieces is the team breaking into the Kremlin. Now, as children of the Cold War, to us that's a pretty big deal. For kids growing up in the 70s and 80s the Kremlin is like the real world version on the Death Star. This nigh impregnable fortress of evil.
But it occurred to me that kids today (meaning anyone born after the Berlin Wall fell) hearing about breaking into the Kremlin is about as exciting and terrifying as breaking into a Starbucks. Kids today don't realize the Soviets were THE BadGuys for like half a century. Kids today are punks.

Watched Rogue Nation tonight. Another enjoyable action movie in the series. I don't think it's quite as good as Ghost Protocol but it's still damn entertaining with some dynamic camera work during the car and cycle chase scenes.
The villain looks like a Who from Whoville though.

Mission Impossible and Minority report. I saw a few minutes of that sci-fi one with the flying ballcopter thing. Horrible. I don't even know why he does, but he makes my flesh crawl whenever I see him. Like a proper, boner fido phobia. I'm the same with Nicholas Cage. Odd but true. There you go, more freaky than a freaky thing on freak street.

Either I'm related to Jargo or have the same disease as him because I don't like Tom Cruise or Nicholas Cage either.

I'm creeped out by both as well but for different reasons. Tom Cruise is short and probably creepy. Although I did love him in Tropic Thunder.

I hate Nick Cage because, like Keanu Reeves, his expression doesn't change. Buuuut...I seriously love most EVERY Cage movie. So either I really love him as an actor but I'm trying to suppress it or he picks movie types that I love.

I never liked a Tom Cruise movie until he went batshit crazy on Oprah.
Minority Report
The Last Samurai (as ridiculous as it was)
Collateral
Tropic Thunder
Valkyrie
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Edge of Tomorrow - one of the best sci-fi movies in recent history.

I know that The Last Samurai is a joke, historically speaking, that the samurai involved in the equivalent of the film's rebellion wore (then) modern uniforms and fought with guns. And there was nary a white guy in sight.

I still love that damn movie.

You know that scene in Last Samurai where they go into town and they bully the guy's son and Cruise fights like five guys.

Yeah, that scene was shot literally in front of where the Daily Planet was in Lois &Clark and where City Hall was in the original Batman series.
They just threw a bunch of gravel on the ground and set dressed up the buildings so it'd look like 1800s Japan.

I fucking love Hollywood.
