It seems that all the good storytelling X-wise is happening in the limited series. First Phoenix Endsong with AMAZING art by Greg Land ( I'm going to start a new thread). And now the only good X-book out right now is Deadly Genesis by Brubaker and Hairsine. Why can't they just put these fucking books out as part of the regular series? Make them bi weekly or whatever and have a revolving stable of top notch talent putting out excellent stories instead of creating special limited series for all the pertinent stuff and letting the regular flagship title languish with crap that wouldn't have made it as backup shit in an annual twenty years ago.

Yet another ltd series taking center stage in the x-universe. 198 #1, in case you hadn't figured it out, is the beginning of a story declaring that there are only 198 muties left in the world after "x-day" (at the end of House of M, remember?). The Xavier institute has been opened as a shelter for any of them that want to come there, and the mutie neighborhood in NYC has turned much less friendly all of a sudden. Mortimer Toynbee stars, of all people.

It's just a way to get back to the pre-Morrison status quo in the x universe. Every time anyone takes the boat that is X-Men a little out of it's natural waters they have to do massive corrections over the next couple of years - even if it means capcizing a balanced vessel and throwing, oh, let's say 2 million mutants overboard. I've enjoyed X-Men for a long time, but like anything "popular" (movies, music, cars, tv shows, toys, etc), it seems like the older I get the less truly new ideas there are.

Yeah...... and that's not the end of it. More below the warning.
Re. X-Stuff, apparently Whedon is back on for a full 2nd year of Astonishing with Cassaday - and it starts in February. Good news.
BIG SPOILER, FOR ANYONE NOT HAVING READ "THE OTHER" PARTS 10 AND 11
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were warned.
He's got fucking bone "stingers" that pop out like Wolvie's claws. Honest.

As much as talking about Spider-Man in the X-topic annoys me. "The Other" storyline reeks so much fetid carcass gas it makes me want to vomit inside my imitation Spidey mask. The stingers come out of his forearms, like where his webs normally come out. Its stupid and insipid. Was there anything wrong with Spidey before? He's not broken and yet they are wrapping him in duct tape, covering him with glue, and shoring him up with 2x4s and rusty nails in an effort to "fix" him. And then they are adding that atrocious Spider-Armor. I predict a swift plummeting of sales for all the Spidey books.
Speaking of X books. I haven't picked up any of the ongoings for a few months now. I heard Apocalypse is coming back in X-Men. And he's bringing the Horsemen with him, but the new horsemen are all ex-X-Men. Sunfire is the only one I know of for sure.

which spells a GREAT time for someone who just started a website devoted to him...
recently i've been keeping most of my comicbook-related chatter at the new spidey site, but i have to say i'm actually intrigued by this storyline. they're not trying to "fix" anything - the spidey books have been awesome recently (aside from pat "not the man" lee's artwork...)
anyway, end of spidey discussion in the x-<s>thread</s>topic.
