X-Men Legacy 210-212 was actually REALLY good. They've had Xavier come back to life and have his mind reconstructed... so he's still Prof X but kind of filling in the blanks by meeting up with mutants who've known him in the past. Gambit showed up (meh on Gambit, but I haven't seen him for a LONG time so it was okay). The story is touching on some pretty formative stuff where Marvel Mutants are concerned - right back to Charlie's parents & stuff and how they may have been tampered with my Mr. Sinister disguised as a doctor back then.

Uncanny and Legacy have really turned around in the past couple months. I agree that Astonishing kind of nose-dived with issue 25. And don't get me started on Young X-Men. Pfew! Stinky. I dropped Cable after issue 1. X-Force started out bland, but the return of Archangel got me all excited. X-Factor is chugging along. The Old Man Logan story in Wolverine looks to be a good fun read. I loved that map at the end of issue 66.

Finished off the last of the pre SFX books last night (Legacy 213 and 214). Apparently Sinister is back in a young female body and will sit beside Sebastian Shaw in the Black Queen's seat at the Hellfire Club. The last 2 issues were a little more convoluted than the previous 2 or 3, but it was still a good story overall. Finished Wolverine Origins 26 or 27, whichever the last one was, and sadly I'm thinking I'm done with it. I wish this has been a 24 issue limited series or something - this has the same feeling as Spawn did years ago - great when it was on pace and focused but crappy when it dances around the issue at hand (Wolvie finding and eviscerating Romulus, but only after he comes clean with whatever secrets they're waiting to drop on us). Shit or get off the pot already.

I have Uncanny 500 & 501, Legacy 215 and Astonishing 26 to catch up on - I've been bad lately for not buying them and reading them every week. Doesn't take long for a nasty backlog to build up, even reading only a few titles a month.

What's been the haps in the X-Universe?

Uncanny really dropped the ball starting with 500. What an underwhelming issue that was.

X-Men Legacy has some good art with Scott Eaton, and the stories have been decent, but it's not hitting it out of the park.

Astonishing has gone in the toilet since Whedon left. And I like Warren Ellis, but he's making the X-Men pretentious snots.

Young X-Men I don't even bother with. Ditto Cable.

Which leaves the two X-books worth a damn right now.

X-Force is a super smash in your face full of a lot of rich x-history and memorable cast members. All the hardasses are on one team.

X-Factor quietly gliding along under the radar with it's Peter David scripts. A good solid read every month. If only the X-Men titles that actually HAVE X-Men in their titles could step it up, this franchise would be in a much better position. As it is, it has been regulated to the not important corner of the Marvel Sandbox...

And then there's the X-related ending to Secret Invasion #8.

Emma being in the new Illuminati? I do think the conflicting loyalties theme is interesting in Dark Reign, I'll give Bendis that.

i think matt fraction was credited with coining the 'illumi-naughty' term for osborn's new inner circle.

Add that to the list of reasons he should be banned from comics.

Damn, DB, as soon as I read vyn's post, I was going to respond with something similar, then read yours and realized I'd been beaten to it.

well, just because he's ill-suited to writing the punisher and spits out an off-hand pun doesn't mean his 'invincible iron man' run hasn't been freakin' awesome.

Truthfully, regardless of who's writing or what it's about, I've never been not bored with an Iron Man comic. In theory, he should be one of the greatest characters ever. In reality, it just doesn't happen on the comic page.
