Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

So...I saw Incredible Hulk yesterday. I tried not comparing it to Hulk, but I can't help it.

The cast: Still sucks all around. I preferred everyone in the '03 cast to the '08 cast. Edward Norton is as boring and lifeless as ever. Liv Tyler wasn't bad (just passable), but she's no Jennifer Connelly. And William Hurt over Sam Elliot? Nigga please. And Tim Roth as Abomination was just there for Hulk to fight with. Much of the acting is laughable (like the brief scene I described a few posts ago), especially with Norton. The Robert Downey Jr. cameo was cool, but should have been tacked onto the end (like Sam Jackson's cameo in Iron Man).

The story: The rewriting of the origin can almost easily be dismissed and one could consider this a sequel to Hulk.
The beginning itself is a problem. It looks like they filmed another 30-45 minutes for the beginning and condensed it into a 3 minute origin recap in the editing room, thus starting the movie almost a quarter of the way into it.
General Ross as a villain. In Hulk, he wasn't so much a villain as he was a General just doing his job. In Incredible Hulk, he is an all around asshole with a vendetta.
One other problem I had, which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere: I thought it was pissing Banner off that turned him into Hulk, not getting excited. I never really followed Hulk comics very closely, so anger may be something from the tv show rather than a comic thing. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The effects: Not bad, but considering most of the Hulk/Abomination effects take place at night it doesn't seem that hard to pull off. There are a few times where Hulk does very similar fight moves as he did in Hulk (the shoulder into the tank comes to mind).

The extras: The Lou Ferigno cameo (and his voice as Hulk), the Bill Bixby show on tv, and the sad walking away music. All too much. We get it!

Overall, I'd give it a C-.
Not as horrible as I expected, but nowhere near as good as Hulk.

OK- it was actually a pretty damn good movie- looked great, VERY Marvel and stuff, quite funny in an intentional way. I must watch it again before I say much but it was as good if not better than Iron Man in my view. I don't know exactly WHAT you will thnk of it, 'Nark, but it is a rather enjoyable film

I'm just surprised that two of you who expected to hate this still spent $10 a ticket (or whatever it is where you are) to see it anyway. :P

I watched it in my living room ;)
If it hadn't been FREE I would have just thought anyone saying anything good about it was full of shit, as it was it was funny enough to re-watch again today

even the fact that Abomination kinda sucked ass didn't really matter. Oh and both Stan AND Lous cameos are fuckin hilarious

OH and I have to see it again but the film pulls a few funny (in my mind anyways) fake-outs where it sets shit RIGHT up then doesn't deliver- you know, where you TOTALLY know what is about to happen then the films basically says "WRONG!!!", which I find kind of witty

For me, I was bored and had a case of morbid curiosity.

Also, from what I had heard after opening night, it wasn't as bad as it looked. Granted, these opinions could have been the same people that loved Transformers, but whatever.

Most of the people up until now who said it was good were the same people who loved Transformers. And hated the Ang Lee version. So I haven't trusted them at all.

History repeats itself?
Last week's top movie, Marvel Studios' The Incredible Hulk (Universal) starring Edward Norton took a 61% plunge this weekend, dropping to third place with $21.6 million just behind Kung Fu Panda with a total of $96.5 million, about $4 million behind the previous Hulk movie five years ago.
Yeah, this new one is soooo much better...

They could've been better off if they'd switched styles and directors, but kept the cast and made it a sequel. I've heard an awful lot of people say the original cast was better. And it makes no sense to have a reboot that starts in the same unusual location where the last one ended (Brazil).

I saw The Incredible Hulk and I enjoyed it.

I hate Ang Lee's Hulk and I really dislike Transformers.

Just my opinions. But this Hulk movie was fun. :)

Kinda like the other Marvel movies based on characters he didn't create?

Mark Millar should somehow retcon it so that Punisher shows up as some average Joe on the street in an early Amazing Spider-Man, so that then he will be considered a Lee/Ditko creation.

The Incredible Hulk continues to fail.*
Marvel Studios' The Incredible Hulk (Universal) took another hard hit in its third weekend, dropping 58% to fifth place with $9.2 million. With a total box office take of $115.5 million, it doesn't look like it will surpass the U.S. box office showing of the previous Ang Lee movie, which means we might have seen the end of this superhero franchise for some time.
