Official Press Release

Galaxy Quest is back in a comedic comic book miniseries of galactic proportions! This August, IDW Publishing will present the debut issue of an all-new Galaxy Quest miniseries, Galaxy Quest: Global Warning. The five-part series will pick up years after the goings-on of DreamWorks' 1999 cult film favorite.

In Global Warning, written by comics veteran Scott Lobdell (Uncanny X-Men) and featuring full art and colors by Greek artist Ilias Kyriazis, it's been 20 years since the cast of Galaxy Quest ruled the airwaves. Alas, the intervening decades have involved lots of sci fi conventions and retail store grand openings and precious few acting jobs for our brave band of thespians. Now, on the eve of the re-launch of America's most beloved science fiction series, Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues, a world-threatening crisis occurs! Will the Earth survive? Maybe, if Jason Nesmith and his fellow actors-turned-adventurers have anything to say about it! In the immortal words of his alter ego, Commander Peter Quincy Taggart, "Never give up! Never surrender!"

"Fans, and numerous Targathian babies, have cried out for us to bring Galaxy Quest to comics, and we're all too happy to oblige," says Chris Ryall, IDW's Publisher/Editor-in-Chief.

"Let's face it. Is there anyone who saw Galaxy Quest that didn't come away wondering about the continuing adventures of Jason, Sir Alex, Gwen, Tommy, Guy and Fred and Jane?" asks writer Scott Lobdell. "We've pined away for a sequel long enough! Now we're going to learn what became of these actors after their first greatest adventure together. Yes, they are excited about the re-launch of the franchise that made them cult icons, but don't think for a moment that success has quelled their quirkiness. And when they have to suit up again, and take the Protector out of orbit...? Let's just say experience isn't going to make their jobs any easier!"

Galaxy Quest: Global Warning #1, a 32-page, full-color comic book, debuts in August '08.

About IDW:

IDW is an award-winning publisher of comic books, graphic novels and trade paperbacks, based in San Diego, Calif. As a leader in the horror, action, and sci-fi genres, IDW publishes some of the most successful and popular titles in the industry including: television's #1 prime time series CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation; Paramount's Star Trek; Fox's Angel; Hasbro's The Transformers, and the BBC's Doctor Who. IDW's original horror series, 30 Days of Night, was launched as a major motion picture in October 2007 by Sony Pictures and was the #1 film in its first week of release. In April 2008, IDW released Michael Recycle, the first title from its new children's book imprint, Worthwhile Books. More information about the company can be found at http://www.idwpublishing.com.

Possibly more telling, these idiots think there are people clamoring for the further sci-fi adventures of the characters from a movie that only works as a one-off deal. And they've given more work to Scott Lobdell. Bad IDW! No energon treat!
Putting the broad back into broadcasting.

This is exactly why I don't read the news anymore. It's just too depressing.

Seriously, ongoing Galaxy Quest adventures? I think IDW may be scraping the bottom of the licensing barrel here. Great movie, but, like Newstwat said, it only works once.

Let's just hope this doesn't bankrupt them so we lose the Transformers comic.

Obviously you didn't read:

This is the dude who made everyone pine for the good old days, when Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, and Rob Liefeld "wrote" the X-Books.
