Don't fret, vyn. As you are with TV's, I am with cell phones. I want it to make calls, and that's it. The only one like that is the Jitterbug, advertised frequently around here, and geared toward centenarians (and older) who are completely clueless when it comes to anything more advanced than a telegraph.

I dont even have a cell phone. I hate them. My wife has one, its a tracfone and the only time I even take it with me is when I have to go to Bluefield with the kids to drop em off or pick em up in case the car breaks down.

oh, you thought this situation was by CHOICE? HAH, no... i would definitely LIKE to have a flat panel hdtv... but that requires money.

though, i do relatively despise cellphones. at least for phone stuff. i would use an smartphone more for internet than phone, really.

#D TV's are a fuckin joke. Dire4c TV is actually going to be carrying a 3D channel. ESPN will be showing 3D programs soon as well.

3D tvs aren't a joke. Well, they are, but manufacturers don't think so. They were the big push at the consumer electronics show in the beginning of Jan. Dumbass King Cameron made a comment awhile ago how 3D is going to be the only way to get people to go back to movie theaters so the home entertainment division though, "We don't want people leaving their living rooms to go to theaters, lets make 3D tvs." You're supposed to be able to buy some for your home some time this year. Of course most people still get sick from 3D technology, and blu-ray just caught on so blazin'ly fast that. I'm sure the TVs will sell like hot cakes to fat people that eat asparagus.

Maybe if they made good content instead of just trying to "jazz" it up people would watch more. Maybe if producers actually paid the right amount of money for good content instead of fighting for lower non-livable budgets and pocketing the rest there might be good content to watch. Actually it doesn't matter as long it is all hyped up, people will buy into anything like how they are better people for now donating to Haiti instead of when it was the poorest fuckin' country.

I would rant on but I'm in the wrong thread.

Either way, they are trying for 3D TVs so be prepared to have to upgrade your HDTVs cause I'm sure the government will step in and make all the broadcasters switch over to 3D programing just like they forced the digital signal, which they still had no real right to do.

3D will catch on at some point, but this version will not. The biggest hurdle will be the requirement of glasses in the living room. Can you picture a whole family sitting around the coffee table eating 5$ pizza while wearing those retarded 3D glasses to watch TV? Once we get away from the requirement for glasses then it will really pick up steam, till then this will be nothing more than a speed bump and as far as a push from the gov to make this a requirement, no way in hell, did you not see how badly this past transition to digital went? Also the push from analog to digital freed up some of the wireless spectrum that we are going to need more of in the years to come, so pushing for everybody to go 3D doesn't help free up the spectrum so no reason to push that. Shit to put it another way, I still cant get all my stations in DD, so fuck if I get 3D before I get DD on all the stations I want to watch.

If we are talking non-TV and more personal use with your PC or mobile device, 3D even with glasses might catch on better if done properly, for standard use to play a game, or watch clips of videos, or hell even "some types" of video/movies in front of my desk or on a plane trip in 3D might catch on very well, but for day to day everyday on the couch with the family its going to be a long while off till those glasses go away. The novelty of it all will be marketed and catch on best with bluray movies in 3D with the glasses but I dont think it will be enough to be the major fad everybody will adopt just yet, it's no Wii.

3D tv would only be good for two things: action movies and porn.
Seriously, who would want to watch shit like The View in 3D?

3D has never not been a gimmick in my book.

I thought the Cracked article was making some shit up, until I looked it up. The glasses cost $100+ each and aren't compatible between TV's? That's seriously fucked up.

No topic about it that I can find (though I thought there was), but it looks like it's finally getting to the end of the road for DVD, where we might have to upgrade or not get movies (or at least extras) anymore.

The Princess and the Frog, coming 3/16 (that soon? why the fuck did it take them almost a goddamned year to get Ponyo out?), is available on single-disc DVD, single-disc Blu-Ray, and 3-disc Blu-Ray/DVD combo. The only extras, aside from kiddie bullshit, on the single-disc DVD are deleted scenes. I'd like the extras on the Blu-Ray combo, but it costs twice as much, and why get something you can't watch, anyway?

Best option would be WM when its released for Blu-Ray, they are usually around 20 bucks the first week.

eh... i'd just as soon get the single-disc dvd. i don't need the special edition of much anymore. i barely watch the extras as it is. i only get the special editions of a very select amount of movies anymore.

That's what I'll probably end up getting. Sad, because Disney movies are some of the few I actually watch all the extras on, and this is the best one they've put out since Lilo & Stitch. (Bolt was quite good, but this is better.)

I've been skipping many of the 2 disc "special editions" lately.
The last year or so these 2nd discs are really skimpy on the "special features" (typically 3-4 fluff featurettes and the occasional useless digital copy).

I used to be an instant sucker for them, but now I see how little there is on there for $6-7 more, and it usually ain't worth it.

The days of quality special features are close to dead.
