My daughter gets to take twelve movies on vacation

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

My daughter gets to take twelve movies on vacation

And these are the ones she picked. Not necessarily her favorites, and there are a few (like Toy Story) that I nixed because they're out of print or the editions I have include exclusive features, either of which would be insanely overpriced to replace if something goes wrong.

Babe
Batman: The Movie (1966)
Cars
GIJoe: The Revenge of Cobra (1983 (?) TV miniseries)
Kiki's Delivery Service
Lilo & Stitch
Mulan
The Princess and the Frog
Snow White
Speed Racer
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Superman Returns

Discuss if you give a rat's ass.

BTW, the GIJoe is one she hasn't actually seen. She wanted to take Resolute but, since we're visiting family, I figured that could give the wrong impression. (We let her watch a certain level of violence as long as we're supervising it, and, face it, Resolute is actually far tamer than any of the three original Star Wars flicks. But it really seemed like something that could make folks question our parenting abilities.) As long as Scarlett, Baroness, and Lady Jaye are in it (and all three are prominent in this series), she's down with it.

Interesting selection for a kid her age. The more girly Disney movies should be expected.

If my kids pick a Star Wars movie, it is usually ESB (which they lose interest in half way through) or ROTJ.

I haven't shown my youngest one the Adam West Batman movie. My other daughter referred to it as the "funny Batman" the one time she saw it.

The violence wise, 80s GI Joe is probably better for her than Resolute. Other than Star Wars, I don't think I could get my kids to watch the "boy" shows like GI Joe or Superman. I don't think they even liked Cars that much. They are more into Nemo, Ice Age, and Little Mermaid.

How long are you going to be on vacation? What happened to kids going outside and playing during the summer? Anyway, here are my brief thoughts on the choices.

Babe - Good Movie. Highly rewatchable.
Batman: The Movie (1966) - Campy, yet nostalgic.
Cars - Eh. Not the best Pixar film.
GIJoe: The Revenge of Cobra (1983 (?) TV miniseries) - Classic.
Kiki's Delivery Service - All these are good.
Lilo & Stitch - Effin awesome flick. Cracks me up every time.
Mulan - Epic adventure film with lots of humor. Good choice.
The Princess and the Frog - Haven't seen it.
Snow White - Meh.
Speed Racer - Fantastic. As we all know.
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Eh. Better than the prequels.
Superman Returns - Not as bad as everyone gives it crap for.

"You're an idiot, Starscream." -- Megatron, Transformers:The Movie

These are mostly to keep her occupied on the airplane and during layovers. The wallet thingy holds twelve movies, so I figured we'd let her take twelve. You know how kids are--ask them one day to pick something for the next day, and the next day, they want something different.

You should check out Princess and the Frog. It's a real return to form, and has some awesome music. I'm normally ambivalent toward the songs in Disney flicks, but it's all N'awleans inspired.

My brother-in-law got her hooked on Cars. She originally had that and Incredibles, until she realized that Princess and the Frog wasn't in the mix. She just saw Monsters Inc and the Toy Stories we have are from the old Ultimate Toybox Collection, and I don't want those damaged in travel.

And, really, what kid isn't a sucker for Ewoks?

i quite like 'cars' for the theme of returning to small town, slow pace life as opposed to the gliz 'n glamor fast lane.

my daughter always asks for "the one where luke gets his hand off" and i continually have to tell her it's "the one with the bear (what she calls the wampa) in it" since that scene scared her before, and she says "that's okay". then she tells everyone that darth vader is luke's dad and he cuts his hand off.

you should get 'freakazoid' and 'animaniacs' if you don't - my girl loves them.
Life is short. STUNT IT!
