Well, they seem to going backwards with the titles (The first one should have been Dawn and this one should have been Rise), so I'm guessing the next one will be Idea of the Planet of the Apes.Tom Foolery wrote: Bring on Battle for the Planet of the Apes! Agreed 100%. Fucking amazing flick.Tom Foolery wrote:Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Holy shit, what a spectacular film. The CGI was fucking amazing. You'd forget you were watching CG Apes, and then for a moment you'd realize everything onscreen except for the forest was created in a computer, and be completely blown away. Phenomenal work.
About halfway thru the film Caesar is shot by one of his own Apes which completely flips the movie on its head. My friend turned and asked if we were watching Saving Private Ryan with apes because the battle scenes are so intense.

I also saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes today. It was very, very good, but I think the Internet jizzfest kind of got me expecting a bit more. The CGI bear and deer at the beginning were unconvincing, so I was worried that the rest of the film would look as bad, but the apes looked fantastic.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Runnin' Down a Dream. A four hour documentary on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It starts with Tom Petty's childhood. Very interesting.

Shit, I've probably watched half a hundred movies since the last time I posted. Too many to go back and comment on.
Watched John Wick tonight. Fun, over the top absurd movie about a retired Hitman who has to to kill EVERYONE because they killed his dog. I liked it.

Re: What have you watched lately?
Recent watches:
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - More of the same as the first, but shitty. Mickey Rourke's make up looked like shit.
Lucy - Stupid.
Brick Mansions - Beyond stupid. One of the worst movies I've seen this year.
Wish I Was Here - Zach Braff's Garden State follow up. It has it's moments, but it's no Garden State.
Hercules - The one with the Rock. Better than I expected, but still not very good. I do give them some props for tweaking the story in a new way.
Stretch - Low budget, direct to video flick from Joe Carnahan starring Patrick Wilson, Chris Pine, Jessica Alba and a ton of cameos. Not bad.
Slither - James Gunn's horror-comedy with Captain Reynolds and Merle Dixon.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) - Holy fucking shit. How did this make money?

Re: What have you watched lately?
Horns. Looked ok in the trailer. Bloody awful film. Daniel Radcliffe was woefully miscast and the 'horror' aspect was lame and overblown. Shitty SFX too.
Kill your darlings. Didn't know much about the beat gen writers before. Apart from their drug usage and sexual proclivities I still know nothing. Nice performance from Dane DeHaan but aside from decent period correct atmosphere this was a disappointing film. Again, Daniel Radcliffe proved he's not star material. At some point I'll watch James Franco's Howl and see if I can get past the pretentiosness for a movie about the beat gen. I'm not sure I could deal with On the road. That has Kirsten Stewart in it. Just as soon look at a wooden laminate flooring catalogue than watch her 'act'.
I rewatched the two Pixar Cars movies and associated shorts. Then gritted my teeth and watched the two Planes movies. I really can't believe there's going to be a third outing for each. John Lasseter has said they'll be doing boats and trains next. I sincerely hope he was being ironic. The Cars movies are both decent enough. Though I can't help but hope for a spin off with the Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell characters. The Lightning McQueen racecar aspect bores me to tears while the injection of incredible spy action really lifted the second movie. I've read that the third Cars film will be based around route 66. *sigh* so more of the same old same old.
Planes 1 and 2 are flicks that should never have been made. The first is a carbon copy of Cars but with planes and the second while it might have had a decent prmise, lacks any life. The new characters could have been interesting with a good script but are one dimensional. It's no surprise that there are no associated short movies. Disney need to shelve the third feature and well, just stop. Disney has become a tired old groaner of a company with shit on their hands. Everything they touch gets covered in it.
I'm sure I've watched tons more but nothing is coming to mind right now.

Re: What have you watched lately?
The planes movies were intended to be direct-to-DVD or air on the Disney channel. But since everything is made digital cgi nowadays, they were like "fuck it, toss em in theaters and see if chumps will pay $12 for something they were gonna get for free.."

Re: What have you watched lately?
I know it's pedantry, but it just tickled me to think of non-digital CGI. I've got a mental image of a heath robinson contraption, where chickens peck out digits and hamsters run on wheels to move cogs and pullies while cantilever arms swing back and forth moving a series of coloured bulbs to make the image change. But since everything is made digital cgi nowadays

I might get Planes 2 for Baby Chux if it's a Black Friday steal. The first one was such a steaming pile, I have no intention of paying full price (or even "normal" first-week sales price) for the sequel. But he digs it.

I meant digital in that they dont have to make physical film reel prints any longer. It's just a hardrive that gets sent. The cost is negligible.

Big Hero 6. "Badupadpada" will be the new catchphrase in Grade Schools. And everywhere.
Easter Eggs include Black Talon, Orca, Turbo/Typhoon, and Sleepwalker.
Beyond that, I'm not going to ruin how awesome this movie is from frame one.

Wait a fucking second. I'd heard there was an Easter egg for a "C-list" Marvel character (using quotes since Sleepwalker is better than A-list even if no one recognizes it), but didn't dare get my hopes up.
