Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Yep, crazy. I'm (done) with ASM at 25.
Purchased at stores B&C today:
Spider-Woman 12 - this is a sleeper series that I caught onto late but REALLY enjoy. I'm done my run & can jump off any time, we'll see
Death of X 1 first printing to supplement my second printing with the better cover (done)
DD 18 (done)
Uncanny Avengers 9,10 & 21 - I'll buy 22 then (done)
Thor 17, I think I will buy 18 then call it (done) but my plan will be to purchase the entirety of Jane Thor in trade format.
Neil Gaiman's American Gods 1 - pure speculation. I'll read it & file it & maybe sell for $100 some day. But likely not.

Revolution: Heroes. Didn't realize this was a superfluous collection, since all the one-shots have been or will be collected in other collections, until after it shipped. At least I can read them before MASK and GI Joe come out.
Revolution: Transformers. Holy fuck. TAAO was decent, and them fucking "Thundercracker and Buster Save the World!" was one of the best fucking TF comics ever made.
And then I read "Nothing Will Ever Be the Same Again!" And T&BSTW! was like fucking dog shit by comparison.
I'm so surprised that IDW and Hasbro let Roberts skewer GI Joe, MASK, Rom, Revolution, and the very idea of crossovers in a book that's not only in-continuity, but has Grimlock developments so important that no one will want to miss it.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
My unread longbox has completely filled, so I started reading some stuff this weekend.
ASM 22-25, and the Clone Event 3-5, Omega. Wow. After a HUGE buildup, that was a letdown. And why is Ben Reilly getting his own ongoing? After that character assassination, he's been turned into a piece of shit villain, and I really have no desire to read it. Also, the science behind stopping the virus made no sense to me. Just a whole lot of weak here.
ASM Renew Your Vows 2-5. This series, however, is a lot of fun. I'm glad Gerry Conway can keep up with today's young writers. And Ryan Stegman is a hidden treasure.
America. Only got the first issue. As much as I want to support this book, I'm not the target audience. I wish it all the luck in the world for its 8 issue run before it gets cancelled. Dropped.

Interesting, I didn't mind the clone event & found Renew Your Vows tiring. Didn't even touch America, this is another character that it feels very much like I'm supposed to have an affinity for, but have no recollection of how or why that would be the case. No idea what she did to get an invite to the Ultimates.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Another small batch of comics read this week.
Great Lakes Avengers 2. This is a light hearted book with a funny concept, but not enough for me to drop $4 every month. Regrettably dropped. However, I look forward to finding issues in the cheap bins down the road. I don't foresee it lasting very long either way.
New Avengers 18. The final issue of the A.I.M.vengers led by Sunspot. Wraps up the previous series well and leads into...
U.S.Avengers 1-4. Bobby DaCosta's A.I.M. is now America's first line of defense and SHIELD's spearhead. While this sounds like Marvel has run out of ideas, anything Al Ewing writes is one of the funnest and funniest titles Marvel has going. Highly recommended.
Uncanny Avengers 17, 19-21. My first confirmed hole from not reading books for several months. Somehow issue 18 didn't get purchased. The Unity squad fights an undead Hand resurrected Hulk. And then they finally go after the long simmering plot line of the Red Skull with Professor X's brain in him. Deadpool wins the day by retrieving Magneto's psi-proof helmet and putting it on a mind controlled Rogue, who proceeds to kick Dell Rusk's ass. Good stuff from Duggan.
Avengers 2, 5. Wasn't feeling Waid's newest Avengers relaunch because of artist Mike DelMundo. Dropped it after issue 2 and only picked up issue 5 to fill out the buy 3 get 1 free rule. The story is pretty epic with Kang, but the art just doesn't jive. Dropped twice.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
And onto the "B"s.
Batman 12-19, Annual 1. The conclusion of I Am Suicide, the fantastic 2-part Rooftops, the almost all of I Am Bane. Fantastic Tom King. Reads much better all at once, than waiting between each issue. Suicide could've been a little shorter, but the conclusion was great.
Black Panther 8. Tchalla and Eden rescue Shuri from the 'afterlife'. This didn't get dropped so much as pushed off the buy pile because newer stuff was coming out. But this was the last issue I got. And I haven't even bothered getting either of the BP spinoff books; World of Wakanda, and The Crew. Marvel just wants a bigger TPB catalog for when the movie comes out.
Black Widow 8-12. I did not realize issue 12 was the final issue of the series. Damn shame. But it freed up room for something else.
Bullseye 1. A book about a sadistic asshole with no redeeming qualities? Nope. Dropped.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Black Widow has been good. I'm eagerly/sadly anticipating reading the last issue tomorrow. Tom King has been getting better & better on Batman - he was clearly the right choice for DC on that book. Black Panther really ramped up leading into issue 11, but I found the culmination a little off for some reason - still well worth reading those issues & 12 which is in epilogue. Better all at once, if I can borrow your turn of phrase. The first 5 issues of World of Wakanda were good (focusing on 2 of his female Dora Milaje bodyguards & their secret romance - oops, spoilers - but I'm assuming hot girl on girl action might get you to consider flipping through them at the store).

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Started on the 'C's this week.
Captain America Steve Rogers 9-14. I realize this entire series has been setting up the Secret Empire event coming this summer, and I'm not as outraged as everyone else that Steve got 'retconned' by a Cosmic Cube into an undercover Hydra agent. But goddamn there's been some serious retconning of his origin that I hope gets reset when this is all over. It hurts to see Steve as the bad guy.
Cap Sam Wilson. Sam deals with racism, and illegal aliens and racist conservative talk radio douches. This is a very political book. I'm just kinda bummed that Rage was the character they sacrificed to tell the story.
Capt Marvel 0, 1. From her newest series. It's hard to keep track because every series lasts shorter than the previous one. I like the artist, but with every single one of these Capt Marvel books, she doesn't have a direction/clear purpose. There's no hook for me. I want to like and support this character. But she's just so fucking dull. And I'm pretty sure they've retconned her origin to align with whatever the movie version is going to be. I'm not sure if it started in this series or a previous one, but now she just happened to run across the psyche-magnetron while she was an astronaut on a spacewalk. It's very vague. No mention of Yon-Rogg or Mar-Vell at all.
Carnage 15, 16. This wonderful horror comic finished its run. I didn't realize the pitch for this series was Tomb of Dracula, but with Carnage as Dracula. But that description fits perfectly. Highly enjoyable series from Gerry Conway and Mike Perkins if you ever find it cheap in the Trade boxes. I recommend.

Between him and Darkhawk, someone hates the young heroes of the 90s. If I were Rick Sheridan, well, then they probably already killed me in She-Thor.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Rick Sheridan did show up in Robinson's swan song Fantastic Four run. He didn't get culled, but they did callously kill off his girlfriend off panel as his motivation for not being a superhero anymore. James Robinson is a douche and a shitty writer.
Finished the rest of the 'C's today.
Champions 2-6. I'm enjoying the Teen Titans/Young Justice/New Warriors vibe of this book. Young idealistic heroes bickering with each other and tackling social issues because they're too naive or maybe just not jaded enough to ignore them. And each issue has been pretty much a standalone one off story, which is rare in today's comics.
Civil War 2 7, 8 and The Oath oneshot. By the time the finale happened, I just didn't care. But The Oath was chilling, only because it's a mirror of the original Civil War's epilogue with Tony confessing to Steve's corpse. This time Steve lays out his evil plan to Tony's comatose body, now that he's been put in charge of SHIELD with all its expanded powers. Holy shit for Secret Empire.
Comic Boook History of Comics 2-5. This series is fucking fantastic. Fred VanLente and Ryan Dunleavy breaking down the different eras of comics from the 30s, through the Super Hero boom of the Golden Age, the war years, and post war boom, the 50s and the creation of the CCA, up through the beginning of the Marvel Age. I thought this was only a six issue series, but I'm hoping it continues up through today and runs like 12 issues, because every issue is delightful. Highly, highly recommend you find these and read them. Probably top three comics I'm buying right now.
