Video Capabilities question for the techie......
Hi Vyn (or anyone else who can solve this problem for me), Im having a bitch of a time watching the Clone Wars cartoons on my computer. I downloaded an all new version of QuickTime to watch these big files (32 megs a pop in .mov format, bigger - and shittier - as .mpgs). When I watched the first one, it chopped so badly that I got about 1 frame in 10, if I was lucky. The audio came through okay, but not perfect. Is there anything I can download/use/do to improve my machine's ability to play back videos like this?
Note: I did have a divx player installed at one point, when a friend burned me a CD of the old LOTR animated pile of horseshit. The same thing happened when I used that player to watch the movie. Didn't know if that might answer a few questions or not.

do you have a graphics card, or onboard graphics? if you don't know what i'm talking about, do you plug your monitor into the motherboard, in the same area you plug your mouse, keyboard and such into, or do you plug it into a separate part near your expansion slots? if it's on your mobo, you need a graphics card (preferably an AGP card...) if you already have a graphics card, you need a better one...
check http://www.pricewatch.com for good prices on computer equipment - on the front page, near the top right go to "multimedia" and under that, click on "video cards" - check it out there...

not necessarily... what's the speed of your processor? if it's anything above 600MHz, it's cool... max out your RAM, and get a vid card before you do anything else... "upgrade to a new PC" is a fabricated slogan made up by dell - an upgrade is something you do to an existing piece of hardware to bring it up to modern specs - buying a new PC is buying a new PC...
