Rock and roll is officially dead
Here is the death certificate.
Try to watch it. Honestly. It's more a shitty parody than anything else. Emphasis on "shitty." If they'd actually made it funny, it could've almost but not quite redeemed it.
My God, I was flipping through channels and came across this, and I had to watch to the end to find out what fucktards were behind it. I'm actually rather disappointed in John Mayer, who is a talented guitarist, but apparently wants to do nothing other than prove he's not Eddie Van Halen. (Seriously, if you can't pull off the solo, change it, cut it out, or something. Don't just broadcast your inadequacies.) The other fucktards who turned out to be responsible for this mess didn't surprise me; even though I'm not sure I've heard a note of their shit before, they seem to be the universally acknowledged as the poster boys for "suck."
Aside from how ridiculous and shoddy this is, there is absolutely nothing that couldn't have been done in 1983 if some garage band decided to cover this when it was new. Has music progressed that little? Are there no new tricks under the sun?
Speaking of the sun, I'm willing to donate to send these motherfuckers on a one-way trip. Any other takers?

Re: Rock and roll is officially dead
Yeah I heard this on the radio the other day. I was thinking anyone can cover a classic and get radio time now?
Also, in the youtube comments the one guy is like "I don't think FallOut Boy would want to be compared to MJ. They've made the song their own."
Firts off, if you don't want to be compared to MJ, DON'T FUCKING COVER HIS BIGGEST HIT. And second. That will always be MJs song. Always. Fucktards.

I don't think he's in the video, but according to the MTV credits, it's "featuring John Mayer."

That was horrid. I watched about 60 seconds of it and hit X. The only good cover of MJ was Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm. The video was damn hilarious too.

Ditto. I never liked Michael Jackson, even when I was 10 and Thriller was everywhere. But this version of Beat it sucked big floppy donkey dongs. Alien Ant Farm's cover kicked ass.kidhuman wrote:That was horrid. I watched about 60 seconds of it and hit X. The only good cover of MJ was Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm. Re: Rock and roll is officially dead
Funny, I like Michael Jackson up to a point (around the mid-1990s). It's not the genre I'm normally into, but the guy used to be amazing at what he did.
Alien Ant Farm's cover of "Smooth Criminal" sounded like one of those punk covers that are not quite parodies but damned close. To be honest, I think the original kicks the shit out of it.

Re: Rock and roll is officially dead
I'll give AAF a little credit for being REALLY faithful to the source material on their cover - it was a catchy track. There are still a few songs from Thriller that suit my fancy, and Smooth Criminal would be at the top of the list.

I was going to respond with that, but was having trouble coming up with a "if you're gonna be gay about something, get it right!" line that didn't sound blatantly homophobic.

You're both wrong. That song is from MJ's Greatest Hits CD.

Actually it's not.
(I dunno. The way the music industry releases three new greatest hits packages for every artist each year, it probably is by now. I just know it's not on HIStory.)

I don't know either. I'll go look. I wasn't thinking HIStory, but rather the one that came out a couple years ago.
