GO WATCH SPEED RACER WHILE IT'S STILL IN THE THEATERS!
I know there's a thread for it, but I don't know if everyone's reading it. Trust me, you will not regret this. It is one of the most visually stunning films ever made, if not the most visually stunning film. And the visuals aren't the only great part by a longshot. This surpassed even my admittedly high expectations.
If you don't take my word for it, ask .

I saw it already, as I posted in the other thread. I didn't go nuts for it like you or mabs did because I take it you guys were major "Speed Racer" fanboys as kids, but I thought it was a decent flick. Racer X alone is reason to go see the movie.
I'm definitely waiting for dvd, not only because I was never a fan of the cartoon, but I've heard it is a pretty terrible movie.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."
Granted, I obviously don't believe everything they write, or everything I read, but I frequent Rotten Tomatoes and the overall consensus there on films is usually pretty accurate. I also look at other sites/forums/magazines and etc. But anyways, for example, if the movie is 33% rotten at RT (which is what Speed Racer is), or less, then I will usually be in no hurry to see a movie in the theater and can usually wait for dvd or cable. If it is certified fresh, then I don't mind shelling out the dough seeing it in the theater (if I am interested) as I pretty much know I am going to see a good film, and won't be potentially (or likely) wasting my hard earned money. Now this is not at all the sole basis for my movie going adventures, but it does take a lot to get me into a theater these days. So if a majority of the reviews I read at varying places (and from people) are negative, and I don't have much interest in it, then I can most certainly wait, and save my money in the process.

So, Rollo, mabs, and myself going apeshit about how good this movie is, vyn saying it's quite good (but not as enthusiastically), and Double_G saying it's good but not great (the worst review here)--all that means nothing to you?
You're going to take the word of a bunch of people on the internet over a bunch of other people on the internet? Fine. I see how it is. :p

In all honesty - I've avoided the Speed Racer thread both at this site, and the other, after the movie was released. This is not b/c of my disinterest for the movie itself, nor the short reviews I've read about it, but for fear of spoilers and what not. If I have the slightest bit of interest in a movie I will usually avoid in-depth discussions about it, again, for fear of spoilers. I know, there probably isn't much to spoil about Speed Racer, but I'd rather not chance it (b/c of past experiences). This goes with all movies I have the slightest bit of interest in seeing, serious thick plotted movies, or ones with the lack thereof.
But if you guys are going apeshit over it, then I'll definitely rent the dvd when it comes out and I'll keep you in my thoughts while I watch it.

I can pass on tis movie for now because I was never a fan of the show. I hated the show actually. I will watch it when it hits HBO or some other movie channel.
Too bad, cos for those trying to remain spoiler free by avoiding the other thread, me nark and rollo all had some stellar things to say. The more I think about it, the more I would have to agree with Nark's comment that it was THE most fun I've had in a theatre since 1983, no lie, it topped my all-time-fave comic film Spidey II by a decent bit
Getting choked up at a movie based on Speed Racer was a ludicrous guilty pleasure that I am glad we got to experience at least once
The film has so much of a Japanese pop/manga sensibility it is just the coolest fucking thing ever
I have every intention of seeing this now, entirely because of you homos and your slathering and drooling. Mind you, if it blows goats I'll be coming to collect my $10 out of your hides.
