Tron 2
Nothing much to say- the first one was visually awesome but kinda goofy, not a very hard target to hit, as long as they don't go "dark" I think it could be pretty fun
I know this was mentioned somewhere else but I figure it needs its own thread

Tron Legacy
I looked on the first 3 pages and gave up, I could have sworn we had a topic for this
Newest trailer is up and it is pretty cool in my opinion, the fact that it is an actual sequel is cool as fuck, I am fairly sure this is the longest break between films in the same universe that weren't remakes or reboots (or prequels I guess) and I am glad that those involved took such unusual, yet high, ground

Re: Tron Legacy
I am sitting in the theatre waiting for the Preview Screening of Tron to begin.
I took my nephew (he's 22). He had never heard of either the original or the new film. He has no idea what its about, other than seeing the poster and guessing its Sci-fi. I thought that was strange so I asked my ex(she's 29) if she had heard of it, and she hadn't heard of either film. So then I asked my 25 year old sister, and the only Tron she's heard of was Tron-Man on Conan O'Brian. Really, is this franchise as obscure as all that? I'm flummoxed.
I will post a review after the film, but I expect it to rock tits.

Re: Tron Legacy
There's been commercials and advertising for it all over the place, so I don't know how somebody could have not heard of at least the new one. I was vaguely aware of the old one but my interest was piqued after seeing the test animation and trailer for Legacy, so I saw it and thought it was awesome. Legacy looks pretty badass so hopefully it will be.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Re: Tron Legacy
Okay, I just got home. It was good, but it couldve moved a little faster. Young CGI Jeff Bridges is just creepily accurate to watch. I'd say they've got it about 96% the way to making CGI humans indistinguishable from real people. Olivia Wilde is hawt. The 'Games' scenes were awesome, but they shouldve been longer and more of them. There was too much talking and not enough neon covered ass kicking. Which there was a fair amount of, I just wanted more.

Re: Tron Legacy
Pretty much what I've heard: All style, no substance.
I still want to see it. Looks like fun.
Anyone notice Tron hasn't been rereleased on DVD/BluRay during all this Tron 2 hype? The film has been out of print for a while now, so copies are going for upwards of $200 on ebay.
Disney was planning on a rerelease, but shelved it until sometime after Tron 2 opens. They did a few screenings a while ago and were horrified at the reaction to it (people were laughing at the movie). Apparently, they forgot Tron was a terrible movie that bombed and the special effects were outdated 20 years ago.

Re: Tron Legacy
I like Tron, but isn't a movie I've seen over and over.
Holy carp. Even the VHS tape of Tron on amazon is $48-$116. DVD starts at $75. I had no idea it was that "rare", but after thinking about it, Disney does yank its movies from the market every so often. I should probably get The Black Hole while it is cheap.

Re: Tron Legacy
It had been solicited for December originally, I thought. No listing for a new version, then?
I've never understood the whole "take a DVD out of print" thing. They could produce them on demand, charge a few bucks more for them (literally, a few, as in $3 or so), and eliminate all this markup. Because the secondary market price increase goes only to the middleman, not the folks who actually make the movie.

Re: Tron Legacy
anyone who markets things as 'collectibles' only cares about the initial production run being bought in its entirety. they don't care about making tons of money because it's truly 'collectible' - they just want to create a fervor so that they're not stuck with a bunch of product no one wants, the "gotta have 'em all" philosophy, artificially creating a thought that it might not be available some day, so you better get it now. the fact that the fervor they create goes beyond the initial market is outside of the scope of their attention span, although as you can see in some instances, the manufacturers are beginning to get wind of the price some people are willing to pay.anarky wrote:I've never understood the whole "take a DVD out of print" thing. Re: Tron Legacy
What the hell? I got the 2002 Tron DVD earlier this year for $10 at Best Buy (it's sitting four feet to my left). I guess I should be glad I did.
Some parts of the original film are a little goofy, but I do think it's a good, solid action-adventure movie with a very intriguing setting and premise. It's a reasonably interesting exploration of the human-god relationship, but people only focus on the effects (for good reason, I suppose).
I do kind of wonder why Disney is putting so much of their faith in this film, though, given that the old one really only ever gained "cult" notoriety.

I'd kill to have some of the old Atari games. There were several, IIRC.

Re: Tron Legacy
I thought it would be cool if they put the original game as an EasterEgg in the new Xbox360/PS3 game they just released. They did that with Pitfall a few years ago, you walked into a certain cave and it opened up the classic 8bit Pitfall game, and you had to play it to get back out. And then did the same thing with Donkey Kong as well.anarky wrote:I'd kill to have some of the old Atari games. There were several, IIRC.

I think we have some Atari games with manuals in the garage, but I don't think Tron is one of them.anarky wrote:I'd kill to have some of the old Atari games. There were several, IIRC.
There were two on the 2600: Adventures of Tron & Tron Deadly Discs (which appear to be on

There are a lot more Tron video games that I knew about. The only one I think I played was in the arcade or maybe on a friend's Commodore 64.
Re: Tron Legacy
Well I saw the original when it first came out on VHS, have seen it a few times since, and re-watched it last week just for reference
As a sequel, that film is fucking awesome, is pretty much all I can say. Uneven pacing is definitely an issue but overall it was a really fun ride. I ended up getting Rinzler and a Black Guard a few hours after the show, just cos they rock

I'll pick up a few of the 7" figures also. But I'll wait until they go on clearance at TRU like all movie figures inevitably do. Terminator Salvation anyone? Or Star Trek?
